I have to ask this... (Yaoi v Yuri popularity)

Suiseiten's topic: I notice even on this forum there is a lack of yuri in both this and the download thread. I prefer yaoi personally, but there are a couple of titles I like in the girl on girl genre. So here's what I am trying to accomplish with this particular thread:

Do you think if yuri was more readily available, it would have gained popularity instead?

Is yuri in short supply everywhere or is it just an observation in at least the bookstores?

Which of the genres do you prefer?

If you don't like the genres, I request that you post elsewhere. You have the right to your opinions, but you don't have to spam how much you hate homosexual relationships.

I don't think that Yuri would ever catch up with the Yaoi popularity even if more links were posted to download them. It's never been promoted as much as Yaoi. It might be sought after as much though. I read both, Yaoi and Yuri-

But I get bored if it's a cliche' plot line with your typical characters.

I think I mostly don't care for many yuri because the ones I've checked out are a little too masculine with the art. The storylines are typically not as good. The only exception was Yurihime. I loved those shorts because they were beautifully drawn and it seemed to have some of the emotions I seek.

The storyline is definitely important no matter what. You are definitely right. I also like the role reversing type, where the submissive looking one winds up being a dominating persona.

I think that the only yuri that I ever really liked was Strawberry Panic. I honestly found it very cute. But it's true that with yaoi being comprised with mostly hot guys, it definitely is in the lead. I rarely watch much of either one but if it's in a show I like, then I don't really care either way.

Well. In my country yes. No yurimanga's in the comics store. Just a few Yaoi books...but then again. Manga/anime is not really popular over hear. I bet those Yaoi books didn't sell because I've seen them for ages.

I like both but I prefer straight pairs. When it comes to yaoi I'm most likely disappointed that a handsome male turns out to be gay...such a waist :p
but I still enjoy a good story now and then. Something that I don't like in Yuri manga/anime? Possessive females slapping a guy just because they talk to her love interest. Yuri manga not from Yuri Shimai/Hime lol.
But as I said. I prefer straight. Yaoi/Yuri are both nice.

For me Yuri is much better.. i dont like yaoi (notice, i don't hate it, I think it a bit stupid to hate something that you don't understand fully)

Although i love Yuri... I know yaoi has much more popularity...

IMO, Yuri Dominates yoai, lol most Guys like Girl + Girl Action, lol that is Hawt, lol while Yoai "AKA Guy+Guy" Can be a bit disturbing for guys, but got Girls Yoai is liked more, lol.

Any other way would be for thoes who are Gay, Lesbian, bi, or have intested in the same gender as themselves but don't feel open to consider any relations to that in real life situations, *AKA the wanna-bees but cant's*

Well.. but if you see there.. although you've not notice, there are much more girls in forums than boys..

Yuri forums are cool.... but not that easy to find...
Type Yaoi in google and u will see what happens..

But i wonder why they feel attract to boys+boys... maybe the same reason we are attracted to yuri

Also, there's much more shounen-ai than shouyo-ai, at least the popular titles...And many people take interest in yaoi/yuri after a longer time being interested in their 'lighter' versions >.>...

That's so true, but I don't agree with your second statement but I can be wrong since I'm merely talking about myself...I'm straight but I think Yuri is pretty neat just like Yaoi. There are others who think that way to....and no. I'm not in denial.

sigh. I don't like raving (who are REALLY into it) Yaoi/Yuri fangirls/fanboys though. They sometimes annoy me uguu~ -runs away-
