Don't you like the art and the stories too, or is it entirely the BL/man on man issue that you find so repulsive?

forget the taboo crap. straight guys simply see no purpose in flicking thru a yaoi manga. there is simply no interest in it. same as how i dont go into public toilets and stare at everyone else tackle. trust a girl to try and mystify it. there is nothing in it for a straight guy end of story.

I am a woman, I am straight and I read everything. m/f, m/m, f/f, menage everything. As long as the story lives up to my expectations I don't give a d*mn about the pairings. To be honest I'm so used to it that I don't even bother to check if the main characters are male or female anymore, just the main concept of the book, manga, or whatever I want to read.

I read yaoi novels and mangas, I watch yaoi anime as well. I don't find some kind of erotic pleasure in it and it doesn't turn me on. Same goes for yuri material too. They're JUST stories. If they're good I'll choose the same mangaka in the future again. If not - oh well - too bad!

What I asked you above was not some kind of attempt to mystify the fact that men don't usually read yaoi.
As a thinking person I always thought there must be a reason for not even trying to check something out, not once.
You like it, you keep it. You don't, then drop it!
But don't you have to see first for yourself than just proceeding narrow-minded?
That's how human brain works - when it does work anyway.
Giving evasive or aggressive answers/comments about things you haven't even bothered to take a look at is definitely not a justified answer for me. Whether it's prejudice or something else that's entirely up to you to decide.

BUNCH OF CRAP!!!! I and like 2 other guys I know(one of which has a G/F btw) happen to like yaoi. It's because of the fact that most or all guys are too insecure with their own sexuality that they can't even look at the innocent stuff without saying "OH THAT'S EFFING DISGUSTING, GET THAT HARDCORE MESS OUT OF MY FACE!!!" Meanwhile it's just two guys hugging...As for the REAL hardcore stuff(which I admit I look at, I don't care), well that I would understand you would be a bit sicken, but there's a reason why when people put warning labels. Either way, it's all just fiction and stories to me so whatever...

You don't, then drop it! your words its as simple as that but your choosing not to get it. we live in a mass media world very few ppl would not have seen gay images we know wot it is. probably seen stories of the husband running off with the bestman etc in the papers but page 3 just has more appeal. reguardless of art or story one look at the cover tell me its not for me i'd even go so far as to look at the first few pages but would i finish it no simple as that.

Yea I guess, but there's a difference between taking a peek at it and seeing if you like it or not(if not then I or someone else won't force it) & then just being an asshole about it and flaming it. Then again that's just my opinion about it.

well lets put it this way any straight guys looking for manga in a normal shop with yuri, yaoi and all the others.... how many would pick up yaoi! (sorry but i like to read wots on the cover and yaoi just doesn't seem to be aimed at straight guys). so its not really such a puzzle as to why all wont read it (forget the prejudice and the gay crap). alot of manga simply doesn't sell.

Agreed it's all fictional and just drawings so I'm not fazed by it, but some have a phobia of homosexuality and that results in a huge disapproval in anything remotely gay (meaning possibly a strong sense of immorality to touch the subject). Romance is romance, but when it gets to the hardcore stuff like you said Sk, that would be really disturbing for me (dunno bout others but hey, it's a difference in personalities/tastes)

Hardcore stuff (from every genre) could be disturbing or even offending for others, but again warning labels for such things always exist - just like there would be warnings for explicit language, incest or rape.
