Default Silent Hill: Homecoming review

If you are a Silent Hill fan, then I'm sure you know that an American team developed Silent Hill: Homecoming. This has had us all scared for the past couple years for fear of Americans not being able to do a proper Silent Hill title. This ended up being true to a certain extent.
The first problem I had was that the protaganist was a solider. One of the key things that really gave the feeling of helplessness in the previous games was that the main characters were normal everyday people with no formal weapons training. With Alex (the protaganist), you can easily dodge and counter any enemy attacks including bosses. The combat was fun, but took away from the scare factor. The influence of the Silent Hill movie on this game is another complaint. The movie was really a separate mythos than the games, but they decided to use the Pyramid Head and the Miners from the movie. Pyramid Head being in this game ended up being more fanservice than anything. Anyone else agree with this?

The Silent Hill series needs to die IMO. Everything after Silent Hill 2 has just been bad IMO. This new 1 is the best 1 so far after Silent Hill 2 but it still doesn't live up. As for the Combat its pretty much what I was expecting you Vs some horrible 7 limbed 4 breasted ( Yes you read right ) Monster and many other variations of monsters with 9 times out of 10 some pipe, stick or whatever. I must admit in the game its quite satisfying mercilessly beating something to death. It doesn't do club beating anywhere near as satisfying as say condemned but I won't dive into that. A majoy flaw in the game tho is that your worst and most powerful enemy in the game is the corner ( Doesn't sound threatening but it is ). If you get backed into a corner by multiple enemies your FUCKED. That dodge ability gets thrown out the window.

I could go on but Ive covered what I want to say. I will reiterate tho that the series needs to die IMO. If a Silent Hill game 1 day comes along and is better then Silent Hill 2 then i'll eat my own shoes.

haven't played it yet but yeah having Pyramid Head in the game makes no sense unless your secretly James from sh2... which you aren't (i assume) (not that that would make any sense either come to think of it...)

Silent Hill 3 wasn't as bad as 4. To me tho a Silent Hill game is all about the 1st impression and Silent Hill 3 pretty much failed with that. The story gets thrown at you little by little and you don't even get to the Silent Hill Town until the second half of the game. It almost makes the shopping mall and the other areas you visit pointless. Theres hardly any of the actual story told to you until you get to the town. Also the difficulty level was something that needed to be worked with in 3. Most of the time you scrap by with little ammunition and health ( Please no one add that you were able to have plenty of ammunition and health because your so "uber" awesome at video games. Im talking about the average gamer ) Which makes running away a option you will use alot. All in all 3 was a fan service game, it introduced nothing new or exciting except for the new graphics engine which made everything very pretty. I still say 2 was and still is the best. Keep in mine this is all my opinion so no hate on me please ;>.>.

Silent Hill 3 was amazing.

4 wasn't, and for good reason. In its initial development, SH4 wasn't even intended to be a Silent Hill title. It was meant to be a stand alone survival horror game. At the last minute, they decided to boost sales by attaching the SH name to it, and throwing in a few week plot connections (the journals, etc.). That's why the plot feels so detached from the game in 4.

After that, I lost a little faith in the series. I'm still too skeptical to pick up Homecoming.

your not suppose to kill everything that moves this isn't resident evil I had plenty of health and ammunition by the last fight

And after a few hours into this game I love it reminds me a lot like Silent hill 1

I don't know why people hate origin's I found it to be alright not the bad game everybody makes it out to be(although your weapons breaking is stupid)

Also This game adds something more(at least to me)others didn't.....enemies breaking down doors XD(I'm currently in the police station)...this makes you stay on your toes a little

I also found SH 3 to be awesome(the hospital blood room will be one of the best parts in horro video games ever XD)

Well Now that I'm much farther into the game(I think I'm about to finish it I'm currently in the other/dark/hell prison) I still hold my opinion

sure its not a 10/10 probably around a 8/10

This game is much harder than any other silent hill I've ever played I think I've died more times in this one than all the other silent hill's combined.

The story even at this point id pretty iffy it does feel like it lost the touch from previous games but its not bad by any means.

The visual are great in some area's(the Prison,Descent to hell) and bad at others

The combat is a good upgrade to the old tank controls in previous silent hill but the dodge button becomes useless once an enemy corners you in a corner ...>_>

more later

Homecoming was better than I thought it would be when it was announced, I really had grim thoughts. But it turned out to be good, not the best but not the worst. The combat is ok, but there is a BIG trick to it, also dodge does work in groups but you have to dodge toward other enemys, which it seems the AI can't handle and you will be fine. Also "boogieman" (Pyramid Head) does have a reason in for being in Homecoming, even if it is just a repeat of the reason in 2. Though the including of people (The order) was alittle dumb, but over all it was a good game.

Also anime stop being a hater. =P

From what all the reviews about the game say the game will be what everyone expects it to be. This means that you wont get anything extra. However I will say having a guy with military experience as a main character kind of ruins the whole Silent Hill effect of making the main character just a normal person. This was one of the main aspects of the game that made it enjoyable/scary.

All I can say about that is you have to beat it.
