Now before people start calling me fanboy I am not. I have both a PS3 and a Xbox 360 and all four consoles of the previous generation (Dreamcast, Gamecube, PS2, xbox). The thing is that I constantly notice things regarding Wii that seem strange to me. I will make some points always from my point of view and I hope that no one misinterprets my intentions for this thread.
1.Games. I will focus on two points for the games library of Wii. First, except a few other titles from other developers, Nintendo is the only one that takes games creation seriously on wii. Many companies publish dozens of games that feature no effort from them. From awful graphics/sound and broken gameplay these games comes in great numbers on the Nintendo console hoping that the moving sensing aspect of the console will fool owners into buying their product. I can mention dozens of games like that, games that most reviewing sites don't hesitate giving them scores lower than 2.0. Also with the success of Wii sports almost 1/3 of the games on this console are party games wasting the real potential of Wii for making profit. Secondly, I want to talk about the Nintendo franchises. Even though most companies have their "flagships" that put their hopes on to make big sales out of, Nintendo really stretches the limit of how many titles can release from them. Let's leave out the Mario platform games and the Zelda games. We have dozens of Mario spin offs like Mario Golf, soccer, Olympics, cart, party, etc, etc. No other company in the chronicles of gaming squeezed so much franchises. Also what really annoys me (not only in regards of Nintendo) is how reviewers give misleading reviews and scores to games from those franchises. I mean let's take Mario Cart and Super Smash Bros for example. The first one hasn't changed at all since the first one was release on SNES. Not only that but the game is awfully cheap (regarding the AI) especially in the latter stages of the game. Still the reviewers either ignored those facts, or they just forgiven them. The same more or less happened in Smash Bros. The game basically is a button masher with characters from Nintendo. The single player aspect of the game is awful. But still this hardly affected the reviews (as I said this happen with many franchises from other consoles too like Halo and GTA IV). 2. The future of the console. Even though it's a bit early to open such subject still I have some thoughts regarding what will happen next. I mean ok we have the standard titles from Nintendo like a new Mario or Metroid Prime or Zelda game but what about all the others? Right now Wii gets a lot of it's games from the PS2 with only differences the upscaling in the resolution and the controls (Manhunt 2, NFS series, DBZ etc). The PS2 will eventually stop being produced. What then? Porting a game for the other formats is almost impossible (PC, PS3, 360 have almost the same capabilities but Wii is just a bit more powerful than GC) so what we are left are the usual Nintendo games and the other god awful 3rd party games. Now someone might say that the huge success of the console will motivate developers into making more great titles for Wii but if you ask me why should they bother? They make great deal of cash just by releasing cheap and shallow games, why bother creating something different than that? Just make them cute, colorful and with as many motion movements (most of them useless or unnecessary) as possible. I speak generally so please don't get angry if I wrote anything too absolute. There will be games from other companies that will worth their money (like Force Unleashed for example). 3. Hardware/Price. Yeah I know that with wii we are buying a gaming console and everything that doesn't directly affect gaming is not needed and I kinda agreed at first but now with the serious drop in the prices of the other two consoles (and given that Wii hasn't really lowered it's price that much) I'm starting to have second thoughts. Wii doesn't push any boundaries hardware speaking (except maybe how casual gaming can get) and it doesn't support anything else. When it had $100+ difference in the price compared to the other two yeah that was acceptable, it was the cheap fun solution to the people that don't take gaming too seriously or parents who didn't want to buy to their young ones an expensive console with features that they didn't know anything about. Now you can buy a 360 with less money than Wii (if you exclude the HDD) which will have DVD & CD playback, playing music from usb devices, HD video, Dolby and more and better games (for my tastes at least). But let's forget the specs and price for a while. Lets talk about the controls. In my opinion the genre that would really benefit from motion sensing are the first person shooters. Unfortunately except from Metroid Prime (and maybe COD3) no other fps was released to take advantage of the consoles controls. Some one might mention Wii Sports but let's face it; that game as well as all the others similar to it are shallow as hell and they will only offer a few laughs if you are playing with friends. Because I wrote quite a lot I will stay on this 3 points for now. Please feel free to comment or correct me for anything I said and please don't start writing generic posts of fanboyism (Wii Rockz, Wii Rulez, Wii FTW etc). Actually, I'm pretty sure the wii will be dominating the console marketplace soon, if it hasn't already. Sure, the other consoles may be more powerful, with better graphics, but they're really just updated versions of the same old cr*p. It's still wiggling joysticks and tapping buttons to manipulate on screen objects.
The wii sort of bridges the gap between reality and games by forcing the players to actually perform the actions they wish their on screen counterparts to take. It makes for a great workout. In fact, at least one person has used that as his primary form of exercise in a weight loss program (just google wii diet for the details). I'm pretty sure that most hardcore gamers would agree with you about the wii, but most everybody else is going to go for the idiot-friendly wii. History has shown that people will invariably go for cheap and idiot friendly over the more powerful (and more expensive) options. |

I don't like the Wii either
Games: I look at the selection of gamed out right now and I find maybe 2 or 3 games I want(Mario,Metroid prime, and RE:C...I didn't mention Zelda because that game is on the game cube).and looking at the upcoming games I see one in the next year that I want(I'm talking about games that have been announced) and that is Fatal Frame 4, Other than that nothing...for a system that Has sold 20 million+ you'd think that there would be better games on it Hardware:It doesn't even have Dvd playback..wtf...I know some people will say "I have like 20 dvd players I don't need another one" its the principality of it all..its 2008 and Nintendo refuses to get with the times and its all because they don't want to spend $5-$10 more on each system to pay for the Licensing Fee's The control which was the center of all the attention.........Has become what I feared the most and that is another Gimmick like the Touch controls of the DS seriously the Wii has been out for what 2 1/2-3 years and there's only 2 or 3 games that make good use of the controls you'd think there would be more Online:out of the 3 consoles its by far the worst......Friend codes,No chat Etc.... not even worth mentioning >_<

Okay, I fully understand that PS3 and 360 have better graphic, as well as processing power over the Wii. However, marketing is something VERY important and after all it's the consumers who make the final decisions. Hardware is important but without software and consumers support, a perfect system will become an useless system. Wii has something that PS3 and 360 don't, which is idea. Motion sensing tech is something that attracts people the most...and that's the reason this console is still on high demand. Don't get me wrong, I own all systems and PSP, but they just target at different groups of people. They are all fruits, but hard to compare between apples and oranges, right?

Idea? yeah they had one once I think now to me the Wii is no different than those cheap $20 toys that they sell that you hook up to your TV(Those Hasbro and Tiger brand Games)..only thing the Wii has over those is better graphics and Online And Sony has been toying with the Motion sensing Idea for a while now(Eyetoy anyone) so its nothing new Nintendo brought to the table but the difference is Nintendo made it the center of attention unlike Sony I'm hoping Nintendo changes my mind in the near future ....I'm looking at you Techmo Fatal Frame 4 can be godly with the Wii-mote I just hope this doesn't let me down ![]()

The thing is that Nintendo just overdid it. The controls overshadowed everything else and as a result except for the Nintendo titles almost every other game looks like it was made for the Gamecube (some even look like a N64 title).
I know graphics doesn't always make the difference but having such power the other consoles have much more possibilities. I mean I don't believe that is so difficult to make a motion sensing controller for PS3 or 360. Think of the potential something like that would have. Playing GTA IV or Fight NIght Round 3 or God of War would be great. But Wii doesn't have the ability to create something like that. It will stick to shallow games for throughout it's life (exceptions are possible). I don't know. It's the first console that made me have this thoughts. For me it feels like Nintendo found the perfect way of selling something really cheap to produce to the average buyer. It's like those car sellers that manage to sell crappy cars just because they installed a cd player inside. |

Even if the other consoles do get motion sensing controllers as good as, if not better than, the Wii's, the Wii will still dominate the market because of it's lower price, and their marketing strategy.
The big thing about the Wii is that it appeals to EVERYBODY, from a 50 year old stockbroker to a 4 year old toddler. All the other systems are targetted exclusively at hardcore gamers. Who else is going to blow 300-400 USD to play games and movies? Most people are more likely to spend that money on a better TV, a new monitor. Heck, for that much, you make some very nice upgrades to your PC, or even buy another one (albeit a very cheap one, but still ...). What impresses me the most is how many people I know that own a wii, but haven't owned or used any other console since the early psx years. As for the game selection, that's actually a very clever marketing strategy. By spacing out the "must have" titles, they're targetting the (comparitively) huge casual gamer market. Oh yeah, and don't forget about the downloadable content. |

Re: Why I don't like Wii.
This subject brings up old acidic memories of my hatred on the choice CAPCOM made
to altogether cancel their originally planed Monster Hunter 3 for PS3 and then just put it on the Wii. What's worse is that even currently, there is no word that MH3 will even be translated on Wii for (NA/EU) demographics. What's even more horrible is that assuming it doesn't get translated---I couldn't even import because Wii's are region locked! Fuck! (only other option being to buy yet another, J-Wii) (and fuck you CAPCOM for everything on that decision) ![]() ![]() |

I dont like the gaming console Wii. First off Wii has a smaller amount of games compared to the other gaming consoles. The controller is another thing i don't like. It's probably easy to get used to but most other games if you move the controller to the side a bit awkwardly your whole character dosen't move. Some of the games are all right but i think the Wii is based for younger children. You may think other wise but we all have our own opinion....
