117 Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising dated

Codemasters has told Eurogamer that Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising will be released on 9th October in the UK for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Other European territories should get it a day earlier on 8th October and the US has it from 6th October.

Dragon Rising is the Codemasters-developed re-imagining of/sequel to the thinking man's shooter simulation Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis, originally developed by Bohemia Interactive, who went on to make the competing ArmA series.

Dragon Rising deposits US Marine players and their three-man AI squad on an island off the coast of Japan, whose sovereignty is disputed (violently) by Chinese and Russian forces, and scales up from a hardy first-person shooter with the expected frills (reticules, inventories, radial team-command menus) to a no-HUD ultra-hardcore simulation befitting the brand's past.

Codies has released some new screenshots to celebrate, showcasing the GBU-31 JDAM strike, US-AH1Z Super Cobra attack chopper, US AAVP7A1 amphibious assault vehicle, US Abrams M1A2 tank, the Type95 self-propelled anti-aircraft gun (with a US marine modelling an FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank missile in the foreground), and a Type99 tank (seen through the Javelin's sights). In case you were wondering what we meant by "hardcore".

There's also a video, which we're uploading at the moment, featuring infantry moving in formation using and dispatching some of the toys described above.

222 Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising Dev Diary Talks...

....'Turning It Right up to 11' With Hardcore

A new Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising developer diary from Codemasters details its 'Hardcore' mode, where the insane can turn off their HUD for terrifying realism.

The entry also has a gander at players' freedom to interpret orders and create their own plans in the battlefield simulator's open world, and how to control AI squad members.

Dragon Rising is slated for an October 6 release on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

509 Operation Flashpoint 2 System Requirements: Bring Multiple Cores

Looks like Codemasters have quietly slipped some system requirements for the upcoming Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising into a post on the game's official boards.

Those expecting an easy run of things will be...wait, were any of you really expecting an easy run of things? New developers or not, this is a Flashpoint game, only now with fancy graphics. And as you can see in the recommended specs, that'll be asking quite a lot of you, thanks very much.

Minimum requirement
Operating system: Windows XP SP2 or later
GPU: DirectX 9.0c GPU: Shader 3.0 (GeForce 7900 GT / 256 MB VRAM or higher)
Sound Card: DirectX Compatible
1 GB Memory: 1 GB
8 GB Hard disk: 8 GB
CPU: Dual Core CPU 2 x 2.4 GHz
DVD-ROM DVD drive: Dual Layer DVD-ROM

Recommended System
Operating system: Windows XP SP2 or later
GPU: Shader 3.0 (GeForce 8800 GT / 512 MB VRAM or higher), DirectX 9.0c
Sound Card: DirectX Compatible
Memory: 2 GB
Hard disk: 8 GB
CPU: Quad Core CPU
DVD drive: Dual Layer DVD-ROM

Can't think of too many other games on the horizon recommending a quad core system.

[Codemasters, thanks everyone who sent this is in!]

Vb1 Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising Trailer Oscar Mike

A battlefield isn't the most appealing spot for a stroll, and when the open world will take nine full hours to walk across, perhaps you best hitch a ride. Thankfully Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising has hordes of various vehicles, as a new trailer shows.

Developed and published by Codemasters, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is scheduled for an October 6 release on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

13 Operation Flashpoint Trailer: Dragon Rising Sound

Codemasters says that its military shooter sequel Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising "stunning realistic audio." To illustrate that claim, it sent over a new developer diary.
