The story is nowhere as deep as Fallout 1 or 2, but compared to other games being released these days that's not too surprising. Story used to be important, but now gameplay and graphics reign supreme.

Finally, buying a game based entirely on reviews is a bad idea. People are all different in what they like and dislike, so it's not surprising that you wouldn't agree with IGN or whoever...

Re: Fallout 3 most overrated game?

I've never played Fallout 1 or 2, so I can't compare it to those games. I think I put the game down around 16 hours into it on my final character. With a game like Fallout 3 I always play around with different choices/builds. I wont say it was a bad game, as the atmosphere was near perfection, I think. However, I don't think it was a great game either. If I were to compare it to Oblivion (Oblivion being a an 8 of 10), I would give it a 6. It was an expansive world that lacked real content. The main story was a big let-down. Majority of the side quest seemed like they were thrown in for content with no real purpose. The VATS system was fun to play with, at first. But towards the end it turned into a mundane, featureless combat system.

Overrated, yes. I'm glad I didn't buy the game and just borrowed it. But I can see how anyone would totally fall in love with it and rate as their all time favorite game.

Re: Fallout 3 most overrated game?

I, for one, liked the Game. I don't know, I've been in love with DC forever, and seeing it in all its Ruin-y goodness made me one happy camper.

I do admit, some parts are unnecessarily big, and some parts are just too disproportional.

VATS, I liked, and enemies were fun to battle.

Has anyone else found that glitch to get unlimited Pistol and Ammo for it? It also gives EXP, that helped me a little.

Editing:
I love HEAD CRIPPLED when you blow it off. Also, my Favorite Fallout was Fallout Tactics. *I've played Fallout 1 partially and Fallout 2.*

Re: Fallout 3 most overrated game?

I've got to say that overall it was pretty fun. Using VATS got pretty boring very fast so i took up the challenge of not using it which added to the gameplay immensely. Since i haven't played F1 or F2 i cant compare them, but overall i think that the game deserves a good amount of credit but not as much as it has gotten.

Re: Fallout 3 most overrated game?

i thought it was a realy good game till about the time you start going into the big city than it just started going down hill for me im not sure why but once i got out of all that an started being able to get out into the world again it got a little better i think they could have done alot more with it than what they did yea they did alot but still i think maybe a vehicle that you could have used would been nice lol an i think the big reason some games get over rated is people who are paid go to sites an review stuff an hype it up for the company an some magz are probly paid to also review games well so that they will sell more

After playing about 3 hours of the game it started to feel boring and quite repetitive, kill this guy, get this thing, destroy this city, VATS started to get extremely repetitive, the maps are so big that i started yawning, etc. Bethesda completely failed the Fallout franchise that it felt like an Oblivion with guns
I think so too... This game IS Oblivion with guns, a few changes and much more gore which I don't really like. Why would I want to let an enemies' head or body (With the Bloody Mess Perk) explode? That's kinda disgusting >.<

Unfortunately the game ends completely when you finish the main quest which means that it is over and you can't carry on like you could it in Oblivion. Bethesda will alter the main quest with the Broken Steel Add-On which is scheduled for release in April this year so the game can be continued but until then I stopped playing Fallout 3. I hope Bethesda will release Broken Steel on a DVD... I won't buy anything via Windows Live... NEVER!

If you got bored of the VATS system then you need to play it on a harder difficulty, after about 2 hours I put it on Very Hard and it has never changed from it, it definatly makes the game alot more challenging and breaks the repetativeness.
Also, if the VATS are boring I can only assume your using a 'full gun' character? They are the most boring and easy characters to make and you can walk the entire game with them without any problems, go make a full Melee or full unarmed character that wears no 'armour' only clothes, which I appropriatly called Rock Lee, once he got to level 20 with maxed all unarmed traits and speeds it was the best thing ever, VATS NEVER got boring watching a fistful of punches in slowmo on everything.

My only gripe with the game was how fast you got to max level and spent the rest of the game without anymore level ups.
Is it really possible to play a complete melee character? I play a melee-sniper since Deathclaws can be annoying in melee combat xD Furthermore I think an enemy with a rocked launcher or laser gatling will have you shot down before you even reach him for closed combat O.o

And yeah the fast level up is kinda stupid... The game get's a bit boring when you're at max level... But the low level restriction has it's reason. Ever tried to kill an Ogre at lvl 50 in Oblivion? That is a hell of a challenge >.< that especially NPCs can't do...

I think this game is overrated. It is good, I admit that but nothing compared to Oblivion.

Re: Fallout 3 most overrated game?

I've noticed alot of people on here saying how Oblivion is a better game than Fallout 3, so then why has nobody brought up Morrowind (which is vastly superior to Oblivion?)

Also, the Infiltrator from The Pitt freakin' rocks!
