Shin megami Tensei III Nocturne is a good choice If you're getting sick of Final Fantasy or maybe try Digital Devil Saga.

Digital Devil Saga is expensive X_x
Try Disgaea, a tactics type of battle system, tons of customization , and pretty good story. You can litterally level your guys up to level 3000 Heres a good site to look up RPGs http://www.allrpg.com/games/ |

Re: looking for a good rpg for the ps2
final fantasy VII and VIII both are awesome and i considered them better than X
then God of War series, i'm not sure if it's actually considered an rpg, more like a real time rpg or something.... actually kinda like kingdom hearts or something |

Re: looking for a good rpg for the ps2
Depends on what you're after honestly. However here are some recommendations and why:
Xenosaga series: Great if you want a deep (and somewhat complicated) story. Some very profound themes are explored during the course of this series. If you shy away from LOTS of dialog however, you might wanna avoid this one. Xenogears: Its a PS1 game, but this game is a bloody legend (its BASICLY the same storyline as Xenosaga, but altered because of copyright infringements, long story story... look it up if you're interested) Its dated but this has to be one of my favorite games of all time. Brilliantly done (Disk 2 was a bit meh tho, you'll understand if you decide to play it). Again, heavy on dialog, but not as bad as Xenosaga, at least I didn't find it as bad anyway. Disgaea 1 and 2: Tactical RPGs with a strong focus on building charaters. If you want to make a character so obliviously powerful that it could 1shot.... well......anything, you might just enjoy these games. (hint: the lvl limit is 9999, that should give ya an idea of how stupidly strong you can get). The stories are fun and wacky and the gameplay is great, if tactical RPGs are your cup of tea.... Shadow Hearts 2: A more traditional RPG, VERY similar in many ways to the Final Fantasy series, with a dark humored twist. The ring system keeps battles surprisingly refreshing, since its not just: select, attack, next person in line, select, attack, ect ect... The story is profound at times, hilarious at others and serious as well, and AT THE RIGHT TIMES TOO, it flows very well. Its got a bittersweet romantic theme as well. (Note: Shadow Hearts 1 is the prequel to this game's story, explains ALOT but not really neccessary to play SH2. SH3 isnt bad, but I enjoyed the 2nd one MUCH MUCH more.) Valkary Profile Silmeria: Now this is perhaps pushing the line on "RPG" (in a more traditional sense anyway) but its been mentioned and its also a great game so I'll expand on it a bit. The combat system is much more "real time" than your traditional RPG, and flows rather well, tho I did find it a bit difficult at times (it was nice to see a challenge however, many RPGs I find a bit easy at time). Good story and the graphics are quite beautiful (I dont mention graphics much, since I think it shouldnt matter, within reason of course, but there are some breathtaking scenes to take in sometimes so its definately worth a mention here). Many others have been mentioned as well in this threat allready, but I either dont know enough about them to say either way or I've decided to not mention them by matter of personal preference (This post is big enuf as it is!). There's really no wrong answer, look up the games mentioned and see what you think for yourself. The above are just my personal recommendations. Good Luck! |

Re: looking for a good rpg for the ps2
I was going to say Legend of Dragoon, not a PS2 title, but a 4 disc PS1 game. It has random battles that can really annoy but the story and gameplay make up for it. Also the battle system is pretty good, you just need to get your timing down!(If you play it you'll know what I mean)
I've been meaning to play Rouge Galaxy since it looks amazing. Other than that, I would suggest Xenosaga 1 (I beat it but dilike the changes made to Xenosaga 2) the only drawback is the lengthy cutscenes. |
