I'm sure this has been said again but just in case then you can consider my comment a second recommendation.

I would suggest using Adobe Photoshop. The newest version is CS3 and I believe you can find a download on this forum. I had practiced over the years just teaching myself how to use each tool in photoshop. So learning how to create signatures/art might take some work. If you want to learn fast, then you could resort to tutorials online but that requires a good amount of reading, which judging by your post I would say your not exactly up for it.
