Texture background (Paint shop pro and GIMP)

Alright, here's a tutorial I found thanks to Maki-san from Twilight forum, for this awsome tutorial .
Quote:

Going from this:

To this:

or

----------------------------------------------

STEP ONE:
Crop, resize and sharpen your base.

STEP TWO:
Duplicate base and set that to screen with an opacity of 42.

STEP THREE:
Duplicate base again and drag to the top. Set that to overlay. Now merge and flatten all layers.

STEP FOUR:
Set your Reina base aside and open up the texture below as a new image.

STEP FIVE:
Go under adjust > hue and saturation > colorize and enter the settings below.
http://img367.imageshack.us/img367/1...olorizevs9.jpg

You should end up with this:

STEP SIX:
Duplicate texture base and set it to overlay with an opacity of 77.

STEP SEVEN:
Make a new raster layer and add the brush below (or whatever you have on hand) to your texture (in #ffffff). Merge and flatten your layers.
>>>

STEP EIGHT:
Duplicate base and set to multiply. Now go under adjust > hue and saturation > colorize and enter the settings below. This is to desaturate the copy, so there are many ways, but I will just use mine.

Your texture should now look like this:

STEP NINE:
Merge all layers again (yeah, my steps are messy). Now copy your texture and paste it over your Reina base from earlier as a new layer. Set your texture layer to multiply.

STEP TEN:
This step is optional. But if you find the texure acting annoying, intruding all over Reina's face like that, you can go ahead and erase some of it off.

STEP ELEVEN:
Duplicate base and drag to top (over texture). Set that to softlight with an opacity of 67.

STEP TWELVE:
Create a new raster layer and by using a regular circle brush, just draw in one corner with #f252a1 (something like the example below).

STEP THIRTEEN:
Go under adjust > blur > gaussian blur and enter the settings below.

Set that layer to lighten and you should have this:

STEP FOURTEEN:
Merge all layers. Duplicate base and set it to softlight with an opacity of 67.

That was the general stuff. You may choose to stop here or you may move on to the next steps to make a more "complete" icon if you'd like.

STEP FIFTHTEEN:
Create a new raster layer and fill it with #ffffff. Now take your selection tool (square) and follow the settings and example below.

Once you have the correct selection, clear it and you should end up with this:

STEP SIXTEEN:
Now to add text. I used "Impact" set on 16 for my font and in the color #be6696 .

STEP SEVENTEEN:
Take a size 3 square eraser and erase straight through the text.

STEP EIGHTEEN:
Add the brush below (or whatever you have on hand), preferrably in #c2188c, in the center of the erased part of the text.
>>>

STEP NINETEEN:
Merge all layers. Go under adjust > sharpeness > unsharpen mask and use the settings below.

Your icons should look like this:

YOU'RE DONE~!

That was long, wasn't it? There might of been some unnecessary adjustments in the first part, but you get the idea. And also, as like any other icon tutorial out there, never follow a tutorial exactly (at least for the 3rd and 4th times you use a technique for something). Stick in your own adjustments, do what fits your images, skip some things to see what happens, combine techniques, etc. Hope this tutorial helped.
For the GIMP users, if you know well about the tools section well, just follow along :D.

Re: Texture background (Paint shop pro and GIMP)

I suggest you use adobe cs3, I tried it and it is better than gimp and paint shop pro.
