internet speed problems
so i have DSL and i have this computer and another computer with an wireless adapter attached to it for the DSL. Whenever the other computer downloads something or is streaming, it uses up all the speed and i can just barely use the internet with this computer. Is there a way to fix this so that we all have the same maximum amount of speed?

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Now you can set the bandwidth usage on the computers to the same Say your max dl is 200kbs, you can limit each to 100kbs so it's not as bad.. |

Re: internet speed problems
Well first of all get rid of DSL since it's slow. Get cable or a fiber optic connection. Second your connection is most likely slowing down because your downloading is taking up all of the bandwidth your connection provides. If you're uploading at all then you should probably lower the total upload speed. Uploading takes up significantly more bandwidth that downloading by itself does.

First of all fiber optics isn't available all over, And some people probably cannot afford it. Cable, Hell cable is usually shit. There's a few good company's out there but in my experience if you plan to upload anything DSL > Cable by FAR. Hell even where I live, DSL is faster then cable and a hell of alot more stable. |

The only time DSL is ever faster is if you're right next to hub. Besides that DSL can't transmit more than a few megabits of information at once while cable (and even more so fiber optic) can move upwards of 10 megabits. Also even though fiber optics is less available, it usually costs less anyways. I'd imagine this is a strategy to offset cable domination.
And you don't have to be such a jerk just because you don't like something I suggest. The idea is to suggest a lot of things so the person asking the question can decide what their options are. Last edited by BreakTheChains; 03-02-2008 at 08:01 AM. |
