i use a combination of cccp (without the players included) with DivX and CoreAVC Professional Edition (for h.264), as for players, i only use KMPlayer (the codec options modified for the best quality/performance) for any video file except for dvd's when i use Cyberlink PowerDVD

Re: what codex are you guys using for seeing movies ?
You should never have multiple Codecs installed, unless they are all in the same pack.
Having multiples can casue conflicts which may not let most vids play. Just have CCCP Codec Pack and use MPC with that, and u will have No codec problems ![]() |

thy are not packs, CoreAVC is used only for h.264 encoding (i don't use the ffdshow provided by cccp for this kind of encoding, if i'm not mistaking klite has coreavc but i don't know for sure), as for the DivX, i use it for the Web Player and the codec dosent come in conflict with anything, i use the same thing for years and untill now i havent had any problems.

and just for your info, CCCP isn't the answer for everyone, in my case CCCP is junk and never ever worked for me, tried all players and got all errors, and only had CCCP installed but having encoded files for about 3-4 years now I've gone back to the basics, and it works perfectly I'm using CoreVorbis, ffdshow, MatroskaSplitter and VSFilter and can play almost all files, except for a few, but most of the times those files are just encoded in a weird way... but lol, this makes me remember my old days, I had all kinds of codec packs installed and miraculously I was able to play and encode files xD but only about 70% of all files I downloaded >.< anyway, if you want a program to play movies I suggest VLC, doesn't need any extra codecs since it has built-in codecs that won't interfere with the rest of your desktop... |

What I would recomend...
K-lite mega codec pack with media player classic. It will play pretty much anything thrown its way. No reason to install the entire pack either, only what you need. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/vi...codec_pack.cfm VLC for anything that doesn't work in media player classic. Realplayer installed for realmedia codecs. Quicktime for its codecs. ----- MediaInfo as a last resort in case I ever run into a file that I can't seem to play. It basically tells you what is inside your media so that you can google for what codecs you need to download. I have never needed it though. http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en :EDIT: I will say one last thing though, the VLC icon is ugly. I always change it to something else. x3 Last edited by Starwind; 01-03-2008 at 02:18 PM.. |
