Wow really? If it's true then he could buy Intel C2Q Q9300 or Nvidia 8800GT instead :)

And the 9600GT can play Crysis on high, if you call 27 FPS average is playable lol. It can also play games like UT3 on 100 FPS average with maximum IQ which is really good for a mid-end card.

cheapest main build, i say get Gigabyte GA-p35-DS3l (less than 90$ CAD)
cpu: e2160 and then overclock it to 2.9 ghz easily on stock cooling and BANG! fast comp!! it's almost as good as an e8400 stock and you save lots of cash

as for vid cards, i'd say wait till more mid-priced multi-core graphics cards are released.
