Just run this once in a long while and you'll be fine.

You know the dumbest people in a computer factory, are the ones that put the computer together. Installing a hdd doesn't have to be done by a liscenced technician xD

Its just requires you to plug two cables into it..why would you pay someone to do that..
Ehm yes, the thing is, auslogics is for windows but I'm on a mac so no defragmenting for me lol...although I do have a computer maintenance app so I'm guessing that'll do^^

Does having too much stuff on ur HDD really slow down my computer? I never knew that...(I'm prolly not affected 'cuz I put my media in an external drive ehehe...)

Re: Risk of Downloading Torrents

Can contain heaps and heaps of viruses...make sure you look up for any comments or ratings whether the torrent is safe.

Another risk is that it can be fake...i've been hit once by a stupid movie torrent that is 700MB large which i thought will be the real deal. Finishing downloading...nothing but a 5 seconds distorted image.

OTher than that majority of torrents are pretty decent.

The way a computer stores data is to find an empty spot and store as much of the file as it can, then find another empty spot and store more, and so on. When it deletes a file, it marks the spots it used as free. So, after a while, your hard disk can have lots of little free spaces which makes it take more time to find all of the file. It is also harder on the drive because the part that reads the disk has to move a lot of times to pick up the fragmented file.

Using a second or an external HD to store large files is a good idea. Defragmenting your main HD can help a lot, but as the computer runs, it is frequently saving and deleting temporary files, so little open spaces pop up. If all the external HD does is save files, the little spaces don't happen and it tends to save your files in large pieces.

In Windows XP, you can right-click on a drive and then click on properties. There you can see "Disk cleanup" which helps you get rid of files you do not need and "Tools" which, among other things, lets you check how badly your drive is fragmented and, if necessary, defragment it.

One warning, though. It may take a long time (hours) to defragment a large drive. Of course, the computer does all the work, but if you got a UPS, use it. If power to the computer is lost while the disk is being defragmented, anything could happen.

You didn't mention that you were on a mac, that means that most of the viruses people here are trying to scare you by mentioning wont effect your computer.

Mac's are also a branch off from linux, which with linux the filesystem is much better than in windows, to keep it short and simple, no you don't need to defrag.

You want the long version go here

Edit:
Also the built in defrag for windows sucks =P
Use asuslogics instead, its what I used when I was on windows

T.T No new sig for now...Im working on it though! ^_~

Re: Risk of Downloading Torrents

From the mentioned site:

-----------------
Another option is to back up your important files, erase the hard disk, then reinstall Mac OS X and your backed up files.
-----------------

I'm not so sure this is a good idea because you will have to reinstall all software and apply all updates.

At any rate, after reading the information at that site, I think that downloading torrents may give the system a bit more stress than the automatic system can handle.

However, because you are using an external drive to save torrents, you should be OK.

Right but before that theres four lengthy reasons why defragging has little to no beneift, and they say this:
If you think you might need to defragment

Try restarting first. It might help, and it's easy to do.

If your disks are almost full, and you often modify or create large files (such as editing video, but see the Tip below if you use iMovie and Mac OS X 10.3), there's a chance the disks could be fragmented. In this case, you might benefit from defragmentation, which can be performed with some third-party disk utilities.
Stop trying to scare him lol

Pretty much the reinstall OS is suggested if your system is completely br0ked and wont boot, go figure.
