Problems with my PC
Recently sinced i moved, my PC has been giveing me a lot of problems (understatement).
1)It always freezes up, it does this when i am extracting a large game for example halo or halflife2, whenever i am running a virus scan in stall, wheneer i am defragmenting it stalls. I treid resolving this by changing antivirus and using a diferent on i worked and i managed to do a deep system virus scan, but i found no viruses. 2) My computer tends to shutdown by it self, for example i am doing by practicals on MWord and i alt + tab to the new screen, it simply crashes and resttarts. I comes to the desktop saying windows recovered from a serious error. What can i do to stop this ANy helpwould be reatly appreaciated |

Re: Problems with my PC
check your processes (ctrl+alt+del) see if anything is using way to much cpu or ram,
Secondly for your virus scan, Installing when you have a virus is pretty much useless, Try the symantec online virus scanner [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] For the shutting down, Do you know if any hardware is bad? I'm thinking it could be the psu or mobo or ram...But thats pretty weird... What graphics card do you have? (It could have to do with the reboots)

Re: Problems with my PC
By the sounds of it you need more RAM on your computer. Could you give us the specs on your computer like RAM, processor, video card, etc.

Re: Problems with my PC
Maybe its overheating. Check to see if your mobo include any kind of warnings for problems (no of beepings, etc...)
Seriously, my pal has the same problem with his AMD 4400+ X2. It keeps going down on him, even while playing Counter-Strike. He still nags me about it, but either you buy a cooling solution or downclock the cpu. Its out of my hands. Anyways, ditto on the info thing. Need more. EDIT: It could be your HDD running low on space. Make sure your main C partition have more than 2 gb of space. Or else the pc would be a little slow. Re: Problems with my PC
You say this all happend after you moved.
I would open it up and make sure nothing came lose. Biggest one would be to make sure the Heat sink on the processor is seated properly. It may have moved a bit during the move. If you comfortable with it, I would remove the heatsink, reapply cpu grease, and re seat it to make sure its on correctly. Also I would check any add on cards, Like a graphics card, network card, sound card on so on. Make sure there all firmly pushed in to there slots. Also Make sure none of you cables are lose, and frimly pushed in all the way to where ever there going. Including Your IDE cables ( or sata) connections to hard drives and Cd Drives. and why your doing all this make sure everything is clean, if you see any large amounts of dust building up near fans, dry to blow them out with a can of air. |

Re: Problems with my PC
it sounds like your RAM has been messed up somehow... get new RAM and see how it runs...
I don't think it's overheating cause most comptuers these days will autoshutdown when it overheats. If anything, it could be your power supply, it may have gotten messed up somehow or it's just too old. When your comp isn't getting enough juice, it will usually freeze up like that. It's much similar to when ppl try to overclock their computers and their comps freeze because they didn't up the voltage Unless you're decently knowledgable about computer hardware stuff, i don't suggest you try any of this alone, or do anything that involves changing computer parts. |

Re: Problems with my PC
a ram plate probably came loose during the move, try taking your computer apart and pt it back together. if that doesn’t work reinstall your OS.
If you use the electric vibrator near water, you will come and go at the same time Reality is an illusion created by alcoholic deficiency. I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code People say that if you play Microsoft CD's backwards, you hear satanic things, but that's nothing, because if you play them forwards, they install Windows. |

Re: Problems with my PC
Good idea try reseating the ram and see if anything came aloose prior to the move but if it is in fact a virus you minght need to do an emergency scan before the system boots like Norton anti virus for example (Norton sucks though dont use it) after that you should be good to go

Re: Problems with my PC
Had the same problem a year back, a cooler moved a little to right from its original place, and resulted the same, whenever my pc had to use more sources or generate more heat when it reached the security point it shut down automatics, it also froze just in mid... i mean no restart or shut down just 100% death... no mouse keyboard or anything. Only could restart it if i pushed reset.
If it began after you moved it then its probably the same problem as by me.

Re: Problems with my PC
I run on safe mode.....until now I feel hatred.......repair your computer (reinstall WinXP) after removing most of the viruses....it will fix the registry settings set by the virus......Afterwards, use System Restore to restore your computer to a previous state....
