Monitor help
I'm not sure what my problem is and what should I do, but it doesn't hurt to post here, right?
Anyway, I own a Dell P791 monitor. It's a quite good monitor except one thing - I can't find any drivers for it (in fact, no XP compatible). The monitor is fine and somehow runs well on basic XP drivers, but... When I try to run many games (for example, Legacy of Kain : Defiance), my screen blinks and shows flying grey box "sync. out of range (a changing number ~100)kHz 150Hz NP". I suspect that for some reason, my PC tries to run them on 800x600 resolution with 150Hz refresh rate, settings my monitor doesn't support (it can take only 100 Hz with 800x600), so I always get the grey box of death. Changing the settings to 1024x768 makes the game run fine (I did that once by adding " -width 1024 -height 768" line to the shortcut), but for some reason, I can't make many games run in 1024x768 with that simple shortcut change. Anyway, to make it simple for you : 1) Do you know where to find Dell P791 monitor drivers? 2) Do you know any ways to make my computer automatically run in 800x600 with only 100Hz refresh rate? 3) Do you know any ways how to force games to run in 1024x768 (except .ini file editing and that shortcut line change I gave you)? Any help will be deeply appreciated. |

Re: Monitor help
Well for one thing I might be talking about a different monitor but is it a Dell UltraScan P791 17 inch (16.0" VIS) color monitor. Which is a CRT type (A big monitor non-LCD). If so I think its refresh rates like 120Hz and supports up to 1280x1024 res.
Also I think it went by the name of K2025JJ. But then again I don't know that much about monitors. |

Re: Monitor help
So you have tried the windows default drivers with no luck. Thats odd my friend has your monitor and it works on his. Have you tried to see if there are any updates for monitor drivers?

most Monitor Drivers install automaticly when u connect them to the computer on the initial startup.
As for external drivers, most games don't care bout Monitor Drivers, but Graphic Drivers which are displayed on the monitor. I don't think there are external Monitor Drivers becasue they are all Plug&Play. Find out ur graphics card type, and try searching for Updated drivers for them, and it may work right for you. ![]() |

In few words, it works, but not fully (at least I believe so). Quote:

Re: Monitor help
Well you might want to go into your games settings and see if you can edit inside the game itself. kinda like wow or Crysis where you can edit inside the game if it lets you get that far. Also is the game you trying to play need direct X 9?

All of them require DirectX 9 or less. I always reinstall DirectX if the game asks me to, so this shouldn't be my problem. |

Re: Monitor help
It might be if your graphics card can't handle it. I believe it was a 8 type of card.
Also you might want to check this out. But if your game doesnt need DirectX 9 then we can always hunt around until we find the issue at hand. http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=31477 |

Re: Monitor help
DirectX doesn't seem to be my problem, as I can run some games with DX 9 and the game I'm now having problems with is Legacy of Kain, which requires DX 8.1 or higher.
That thread.. the guy is complaining about totally different thing, FPS (frames per second). For me... I'm gettign no frames at all, so that doesn't help. I tried to run the game with lower DX (as that topic suggested) but that didn't work. Edit : oh well, you have tried anyway. + rep to you both ^^ Last edited by reminder : 01-06-2008 at 07:19 PM. |
