Re: Good Computer Recomendations
go for a geforce 8800 card then build the rest of the system around it really!
id recomend a AMD 64x 5600 processor aswell. 2.9GHz dual core that can be overclocked with no additional fans to about 3.4GHz. |

Re: Good Computer Recomendations
Get a Intel Quad Core Processor.
Atleast a 8800GT, and even better is a 8800Ultra. (or wait for the 9 serie that will probely come out in January) Minimal 2GB RAM. And atleast 250GB Harddisk. |

Re: Good Computer Recomendations
lol $800 range and you recomand him 8800GT, and even better is a 8800Ultra and a quad.
well my advice (this will come arund $800 or so): AMD Athlon 64 X2 you decide what tipe (is half the price of a Intel but it has its minuses) At least 2 GB ddr or even more And now for a video card: I recoman the new ATI Radeon HD3870 (same is much cheaper then nvidia but for this price it is worth it) And with the rest you can decide what to buy but i think you can get at least a 500 GB HDD if you buy a mobo at 100-150$. |

Re: Good Computer Recomendations
under 800$ you ask hard question
but go for an AMD system ,for motherboard go for a gigabyte it give you better price with the same quality as many other. don't go for anything overclocked at the factory . assemble the computer yourself don't fall for an on board graphic card. you need at least 500wat of real power not just 500wat peak power if you want to use amd x2 6000+ i recommend you to change its fan and if you want to use a black edition (I wont recommend it) you certainly need a Good Fan because there is no fan in the box and that is at least 100 $ for graphic card i really don't know ATI card but some people told me to buy an ati card for my next card but if you want an nvidia in that range i recommend a 8600 (Not 8600 GS) for ram at least 2Gb of ram buy one with Fbs 800 not 677. these are in case that you want to buy a new monitor but if you don't want to buy it and you like your current monitor you certainly can go for a 8800 card. |

Dont do it! stay with nvidia! But id have to say for the price jump the performance you get from a amd 64 x2 6000 series, a 5600 it much better IMHO. depends where you buy it from really but the price dropis a massive bonus considerign the fact its not that much slower and runs liek a train! |

Re: Good Computer Recomendations
Well you dont need to much you can get a lot of parts real cheap. But now heres the question. What type of games are you aiming to play. Like what type do you love to play. From there look at system specs. Cause the 8800GT is already about 270. Its a great card (lacks in linux area for right now lol working on patch). But You have a budget. What kind of case is your old computer in. Thats if you wish to save a few bucks you can reuse your shell. From there you can make your computer.
All the stuff you will need- Motherboard CPU RAM Graphics card Sound card (If motherboard is lame) Power supply Hard Drives CD/DVD ROM Operating system (Linux is free I would say go ubuntu if you do go with a free os) Now if you use your old computer and upgrade we can take a look at the specs of it. Now also if you get an 8800 GT you will more then likely need a better power supply. Myself I have a 650W power supply and works wonderfully. Ah dont forget thermal grease You are going to need that for when you put your CPU Heat sink on your CPU. I never liked using the stuff that comes on the heat sink. That cause a world of issues for me anyways. But yeah theres a lot thats going into it if you want to go all new. But you might get away with just some upgrades. So you might want to look at what you can do instead of going all new. The Key to building any computer. After Christmas Sells! ^^ Well if this is any help to you I'm glad to be of help. If not Sorry I wasted your time reading my junk lol. |

Re: Good Computer Recomendations
make sure to check for compatibilty issues
hard disk find the best value for money cost divided by space or format and recycle depending on your needs a super mulit burner is really convinent and is quite reasonable in my country ram wise look at the speed as well and also check if other parts cam cope with it processor get a reasonable dual core unless u want to run a server or an overly powered calculator if not the power is really wasted espicialy if u want to get a reasonably cheap com a free os is nice and u learn a lot about how to use it and linus is cheap and dont suck your com power |
