Computer lag spikes

My audio, mouse and screen get a small glitch every now and then, and it really bothers me when watching anime/listening to music. I tried updating my video and audio cards, and it was gone. But not for long, it was back again bitching me :<

When the spike comes, nothing abnormal shows in the prosessor etc % of usage either. Ive scanned for viruses and spyware, didn't remove this phenomena.

If anyone else has had experience with such a pest, please advise :<

Re: Computer lag spikes

Try scanning your computer for malware.
Also get some more memory, you might not have enough RAM to play video.
Provide more info too... like is it a new computer? How long has this been happening too?

Re: Computer lag spikes

Bought the comp last january, and this has been happening for quite a while. I have 2bg of ram, and it comes all the time, even if I am only listening to music and don't have anything else on.

When I installed the new drivers, it went away for a while and there were no lag spikes. Then a few days later it came back again. Did a system restore and it went away again for a day or two, then it came back again. Once again I tried system restore, but this time it didn't help.

AVG antivirus and Spybot search and destroy both find nothing. The strange thing is, when it comes the ram usage, and prosessor usage are both low so it can't be of them being over used etc.

Re: Computer lag spikes

Your ram could be going bad, memtest is good for that

Though a bootable floppy is best...

Other then that, Do you happen to have nortons running? I remember way back in my dell days norton used to do something similar. Maybe try disabling any real time scanners you have on your pc (Does AVG/have real time???)

If that doesn't help then there's many other things that could be wrong, Would you mind posting specs of the pc?

Re: Computer lag spikes

The anime could be crappy I have 4Gb of ram a Radeon HD 3870 graphics card, and am still forced endure problems like that on certain videos. Or it could be due to slow reading from disk - try defragmenting your hard drive. You can also try changing your player.

PS: graphics & audio cards have wery little to do with this, gaphics is only used in games, and sound will work enywhere the only diffrenece is quality.

Re: Computer lag spikes

Not 100% sure about my setup, but the glitch comes totally randomly, even when I'm on my desktop and only have winamp on, or when I'm playing so its not about my hardware being overworked that makes this happen.

In the end, its not really a big deal but when listening to music, or watching videos it can be a little irritating, even if it comes only every 2-10 mins.

The ram test showed 0 errors as well.

Re: Computer lag spikes

Maybe reformat your com and reinstalling drivers and program might solve some issues. just my 2 cents. or it might be because of your hardware. Maybe it might work.
