VLC always gave me hell when it comes to subs on MKV files...
Either the Subbing filter is crappy, and causes the most pixelated text subs, or the fact, if lets say there is Subbers notes which normally appear other than the bottom on MPC, they overlap over the subs at the bottom, which makes the subs look all jumbled. Then there's the fact, that subs on MKV files arn't automaticly displayed, and u have to turn them on Manually... To me MPC that comes with the CCCP codec is best, because u'll run into a hell of a lot of troubles when playing MKVs on VLC... Also MPC can play RM,RMVB, etc... and VLC won't open the vids on RM,RMVB files... The Auto frame resize on VLC can be hell also, which actually lags the videos on it's startup of playing, while MPC uses a hell of a lot less computer resources to play vids on it. ![]() |

Re: what codex are you guys using for seeing movies ?
CCCP ftw, comes with the z player that works (imo) better than VLC, at the very least with the subtitles. VLC also moves soft subs that are supposed to display on the top (like notes etc) down to the bottom where you can get some nasty overlap with the dialogue.
If you're running vista, there's a codec pack out there that upgrades your wmp to play almost any media file if you don't want CCCP. |

Re: what codex are you guys using for seeing movies ?
just use FFDshow for divx, xvid ,avi,....... nearly all other codecs like klite ,cccp ,vista codec pack ,........ use old version of it then why not use the latest version and it has the easiest and most uptodate encoder.
for Rm ,Rmvb file if you have no special player in your mind use real media player 11 ,it's the latest from real com and if you use Internet explorer it allow you to download files from sites like youtube.if you want to use another player ,then use the latest version of real alternative. for QT,Mov .there is only to program that can decode them quick time player ,and quick alternative .i wont recommend quick time player it's the most hideous player i have ever saw ,just use the latest version of Quick alternative. for players i myself use COWON Media Center - jetAudio Or sometimes real player for the change of the scenery .but windows media player classic and vlc player have their own fans too. for the sake of the compatibality install CoreAvc but new vrsion of FFDShow must be able to manage those high definition files. if you want to see the games intros and such without playing ganes i also recommend RADTools to view bink and smacker files and also On2 Vp6 decoder And On2 Vp7 decoder for soome other games. at last install monkey audio codec but i wont think you will see to much of theses files in last 5 year i only 1 time encountered with them by installing those you made your own codec pack with the most up todate codecs ,and they are not codec packs to conflict with each other and more important maybe in 5 year 1 time you encounter something that those can't open for you. Re: what codex are you guys using for seeing movies ?
I use a codec for Windows Media Player called Storm Codec which plays about every video file format out there, I do use VLC often though because for some reson its better for full screen as it doesn't distort much pixels.

Re: what codex are you guys using for seeing movies ?
I use the CCCP bundle along with zoom player because it works well when I want to just lay back and control everything via my keyboard. I agree with ElderKain, media player classic is one of the best for subs, if you are going to watch anything with external sub files then do not use vlc, it is horrible and looks bad it sometimes even lags!

klite is simple, and includes everything you might need...
klite, by itself, will serve... |

Re: what codex are you guys using for seeing movies ?
all use old version of FFdShow
I prefer to select the last version of codecs not use codec packs which are a compile of old version of codecs. |
