I installed Ubuntu 7.0.4. on my computer, because I had Widows Vista and HATED it (guess I'm not the only one ;) ). And I love Ubuntu! It's the 64 bit Version and everything is great, everything but:

1. I can't install anything! I grew up with Windows exe files and I am too stupid to install even the two Firefox Plugins (Flash and Java) everyone needs. I tried the console thingy, but I can't get it to work the way it's supposed to do. Maybe you can help me: I'd like to install "jre-6u2-linux-i586.bin" and "flash-plugin-9.0.48.0-release.i386.rpm", both on my Desktop ( /home/matzevolt/Desktop ). Could you tell me exactly what to do, I'm to much of a noob, sorry :em019:

2. It doesn't play my original DVDs, no matter what Regions Code (US, UK or Europe) I try, "Movie Player" doesn't play them! I had to install an update and reboot, but that didn't help at all. All DVDs "appeared" on my desktop, so they were "recognized".

since I personally use fedora 6 I can't say how accurate the link I'm posting is but it is a good start to fix your install issue.

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

I've never tried to watch a DVD in linux but I've also never had an issue running a dvd in fedora either.

if you get the linux version on VLC you should be able to watch dvd's.

but vista isn't that bad once you disable the UAC
