Master Chief is a Spartan, which is basically a super-soldier with that suit...
There used to be a whole group of them, but most of them were wiped out when The Covenant destroyed the planet they were on...
Only Master Chief and some girl escaped....and the girl had her back broken, so she couldn't be a Spartan anymore.
