I've watched all the ep that they've subbed so far , so far so good I can say.
Only thing that irritates me is the main character >_<
He hates when people call him "princess" then why wont he take a haircut.
Especially in ep 4 , what he was doing in front of the mirror makes u look more like a girl.

Well, Macross Frontier does seem like a tribute by reliving scenes from the 1984 original. Example:
Finally a Miss Macross competition after 25 years?

So yeah, just to name a few :3 But it's good nontheless.

I've really been enjoying Frontier. I've always been a sucker for variable fighters. And i don't think i've ever met a Yoko Kanno soundtrack i didn't like.

Also the last episode was a tribute to one of Macross OVA's. Very nice move :D
The main character is a bit girl-ish , but ohh well no1 is perfect :/
I just hope he'll ignore (for at least a couple of years) the green haired creature-girl and treat-well the famous singer lady :)
Oh and the sniper dude (the one with glasses) is completely useless,emo and annoying. Hate that type of characters.
Other then that the fights are very good except the big-ass clumsy incredibly un-cool robo-spaceship. I mean WTF?!?!?! why would a big ass space ship "need" to transform into a human-like figure, isn't it much simpler just to shoot as it is why would any1 do something like that/ ffs it was completely retarted I hope they wont focus on it much.

Just FYI, Sheryl and Ranka are the same age give or take a few months.

becase its a Macross class in a Macross series. They always do that, in every series. It will always transform to shoot, count on it.

About the age thing. Maybe they are of same age but Ranka"continently" forgot all she been through and basicly a child while Sheryl remembers all here hardships and the sacrifices she had to go through to get where she is now. Meaning Sheryl is by far older then Ranka. At least mentally (and according to the way they are illustrated physically too).

yeah i'd originally thought Sheryl was in her early to mid 20s but apparently they're all supposed to be ~17

The transformable macross came from the first tv series, where the gigantic city sized fortress SDF-1 can actually do hand to hand combat(punching through another battleship with arm-fist like carriership)
After that transfomable ship is a trademark in macross, including this macross frontier where the design based on macross 7(it's actually the same type of ship class i think)

macross frontier is supposed to be a sequel of sorts to macross 7. kinda in the same way macross 7 is a sequel to the original. they take place in the same timeline, but pretty far apart and aren't particularly related.

I have been watching this series for a while and all i can say it is really good. Has its funny moments with a little action here and there. It may be a little slow at times but it is still really good in my opinion
I like most of the songs that are played throught out the series so far :)

I've watched up to ep.4, but I can't find 5 anywhere lol.
I noticed that in ep2 they were playin Totsugeki Loveheart in the car which is awesome!. and they refer to 'My Boyfriend is a Pilot' as a song we all know, so older series references already lol!

Macross Frontier was better than I expected. There are quite a few references to the original series in Frontier that brings back memories. The most noticeable ones are the songs. D:

First Macross anime I've watched great anime, nicely composed songs. Don't know much about the older versions but I might think about watching them.
