I think practice is helping. Plus I took some advice from y'all and read up a bit. Tell me what you think of:

It looks ok... it's still very simple looking which can be good at times but unfortunately that isn't achieved here (I'm sorry for being harsh :( ). Also don't do borders like that the one you have isn't very nice to look at.
Here are some fairly simple sig tutorials I would suggest. They helped me when I was just starting. [Only registered and activated users can see links] and [Only registered and activated users can see links]
([Only registered and activated users can see links])the second one is a little bit more complicated. Anyways keep trying and you will get better. :D

few things, like Thetrute said, don't use borders like that, just keep it to a simple 1px border, always looks best to me
also when you used this kind of border, you should've save the sig as a transparant png, since now you've white around you sig that shouldn't be there...
as for the inside it kinda looks dull, try to get some more livelier color in there xD
but still it looks good for someone who's still learning, reminding myself of other people who made sigs then this still looks way better
hmm when i started i always used the harder tuts i guess you would say i never used the beginner tuts that people throw out there because well i always thought the outcome looked like shit even when i didn't know what i was doing, but in the end starting high up on the tuts really helped me out

started out simple, but soon after also went after the more advanced tuts
the simple tuts just don't give much result and are to short
usually I went after every tut, so I could learn as many new things as possible
now I still read tuts, but just for fun :em001:

Same here i started with the very simple ones but then worked myself up tutorials fairly quickly... now days I still look through tuts to try to get some new techniques out of them :P

but it's kinda irritating that new tutorials nowadays are usually based on the newer versions of PS, since the newer versions have new functions and stuff like that, but I don't really like to change versions xD

Hmm. I didn't see the first works of you, but I think you should add more details. It looks empty, the font is great and all, but there are a few things you should add to make it look great. Add a lot of things you like, you know, or textures and all! I'm sure it will help.

hmmm. its very simple but its good to start out nice and simple and work up from there. dont use borders like that for sigs, and i dont like the text mainly cuz those kind of fancy text are hard to read. and smudge the edge of the render or erase with a soft brush with lowered opacity to blend it in some more. try out and mess around with the filters to find some effects you like.
and i dont know why you put chi in the bg XD

probably to fill the background, or else you'd have such an empty hole there...

Tried some new techniques I know the render still looks "pasted on" any advice on how to fix that?

smudge the edge a bit or erase edge with a soft brush at 50% opacity or lower.
yea. this definitely looks better. just keep practicing and work on getting some depth and lighting in there.

Thanks for the input. Yeah I need to work on some tecniques for the border, as well as depth and lighting.

the 1px. black border always works or maybe a 1px. white border on overlay if you like that. just keep the border small and simple.

yea, usually to big of borders don't look very good
but sometimes people use a 1px border, and add some more horizontal lines at the top and bottom, like 2px, that also looks good but not on all sigs...

yea. but i dont add the 1px border if i add borders on the top and bottom. gives it a movie scene effect.
Sensei-kun

movie effect is what people sometimes want to put on a sig, and with some sigs I've seen it really looked good, made the sig look even better then it first was
so shows how important a border can be...

yep. yep. but lets not go off-topic in his thread like this XD
