I'm trying to get into Touhou, I've been playing Touhoumon and Touhou 10 but is there anything about the series I need to know? I don't understand it at all. Now if that Anime was finished I might have understood it better. lol.

Also, I liek Reisen and Reimu. They're so awesome. Reisen is my favorite.

Well I am not exactly sure what do you not understand as there is not much to understand. Maybe if you would explain what exactly do you not understand. I mean if you mean it by story there isn't a huge big series story. Each game has it's own little story and a few times a game maybe little connected to an other one. But in basic usually some strange incident happens and Reimu and Marisa goes and investigate it which usually ends up in want to stop someone or something. It's a very fun and nice looking game with awesome music and very likeable characters. It's nothing too fancy as it's not some hardcore deep story game or something. It's just simply very fun. It follows all kinds of adventures in Gensokyo which is a sealed off land from the outside world. Basically that's it...
Maybe you should look into more games as there is quite a handful of them. And by that of course I mean not the fan made ones. You should play the official games first as it may let you understand a little more the characters as who they are and get a grip of what kind of land gensokyo is like exactly, it's rules and so on. The fan games will be a lot more enjoyable after it as you will be familiar with Gensokyo and it's fancy people. Though it's all up to you what you do, it's just a friendly suggestion.

well like he said, the series itself have no really directly connected storyline but i guess the main appeal is just the fandom that define the characters ( as well as the music ofc) .
If you want to explore the original danmaku games ( the bullet hell genre), you better start off with either Touhou 8 ( imperishable night, reisen´s a boss there btw xP) or Touhou 13 since they are considered to have the easiest easy modes in the series.
But it´s not mandatory to play the games to get to know the characters, there´s always the touhou wiki for all the quick facts and just jump in to the fanvideos, fanillustrations and fanmade remixes of the songs ( which are epic btw.)

mhmm if you´re not really happy with the danmaku genre, try out the 2d fighting game spinoffs Touhou 10.5 and 12,3 Hisoutensoku. They also feature little dialogues and many popular chars.
Also, there are many HQ fangames out there such as Koumajou densetsu I & II ( TouhouCastlevania) or Touhou Sky arena ( also very HQ 3D danmaku shooting game like magical battle arena).
There´s also Touhou rekkaden ( really fun ^^) and many other games out there too many to list.

yeah, basicly the cast is huge and probably 1 character for every taste :D!

Haha, thanks! It really does sound interesting. Reisen is a boss? I shall play that tonight! I have absolutely no idea why I like Reisen, because I know next to nothing about her. She just seems awesome. Wiki here I come!

yeah Reisen IS awesome i mean, a lunar rabbit in a school uniform like outfit who shoots bullets out of her hand like a gun and her eyes causing insanity.. pretty awesome if you ask me *lol*

ahh yeah! Reisen will also be playable at the upcomming Touhou sky arena - kurenai- patch ( fully voiced)
but it will be released this reitasai ( the "comiket" for touhou stuff only) around 28th may

7, 7.5 and 8 are the best place to start imo. if im not mistaken, they also have english patches. it will take some digging to find them, they arent exactly the most prominent things out there.

Welp, I would torrent but I don't want to pay a $10,000 fine. Damn NZ government passing stupid bills. I just got Sky Arena lol. I want that patch :O

Sky Arena is getting really awesome, with a total of 18 chars ( Reimu, Marisa, Cirno, Sakuya, Youmu, Alice, Suwako, Okuu, Aya, Sanae, Flandre, Reisen, Mokou, Suika, Koishi, Tenshi, Kogasa and Nue) + full voice and 3d effects and spellcards, definetly one of the best "fan"games out there ^^
