Hi all,

I thought that many Nihonomaru members might enjoy this and asked permission to share it. Minhtam2448 and qtipbrit92 gave me the OK to pass this along to you in case anyone here wants to vote their most-moe character into the International Saimoe 2008 Tournament (and who wouldn't? LOL) Qtip made a post for it in ANN's Forum that I've copied and pasted below:

******

Link! ([Only registered and activated users can see links])
This is a project started earlier this year by Minhtam2448 of anime suki forums similar to Japanese Saimoe and Korean Best Moe, where 64 characters will battle in one-on-one voting matches to find the new moe champion.

As of now, there are 47 prequalified characters, seen here ([Only registered and activated users can see links]). (The missing spots are:
Tsubasa Chronicles's Sakura at 46th,
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha's Vita at 42nd,
Hayate no Gotoku's Ayumu Nishizawa at 37th,
Fate/Stay Night's Sakura Matou at 32nd,
and ARIA's Alice Carroll at 31st.)

This project is currently in its nomination stages, as 47 is 17 short of the 64 required to begin matchups. As of now, the fanvote nominees are ranked can be found here ([Only registered and activated users can see links]).

Terminology:
-Rank - The character's current rank. The top 17 will be included in the tournament. As of now, Kyou Fujibayashi and Kotomi Ichinose have been included due to overwhelming popularity, so do not nominate them.
-LR (Last Rank) - The rank the character held at the last standings update.
-PT - The total amount of points the character has received from nominations.
-PB (Points Behind) - The amount of points the character has more or less (denoted by the + or -) than the cut-off point, currently Ryou Fujibayashi with 183 points.[/SBLOCK]

Nominating:
This link ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) takes you to the nomination information and voting area.
When you reach the nomination polls, you will see:
5 __________ __________
4 __________ __________
3 __________ __________
2 __________ __________
1 __________ __________

-The numbers on the left signify the amount of points you will be giving to each character. For example: the character placed in your 5 slot receives 5 points, while the character in your 2 slot receives 2.
-The first blank is for the character's name.
-The second blank is for the anime the character appears in.

EXAMPLE:
5 Horo / Spice and Wolf
4 Setsuna Sakurazaki / Negima!?
3 Tomoyo Sakagami / Clannad
2 Saber / Fate/Stay Night
1 Nagisa Furukawa / Clannad

This would give Horo of Spice and Wolf 5 points toward her total, 4 points to Setsuna, 3 to Tomoyo, etc.[/SBLOCK]

Rules of Nomination:
-Nominations must be female or exhibit female-like qualities.
-Characters from anime of any airdate are viable.
-When nominating, do not nominate any of the 47 pre-qualified characters or Clannad's Kyou Fujibayashi and Kotomi Ichinose.

Tournament matchup style voting begins in April, so cast your nominations by then to have your favourite moe characters appear as contestants.

Nominate your favourite characters if you feel inclined to do so, and enjoy the tournament.
If you have any thoughts, questions, or concerns, feel free to ask.
You can discuss characters or post your nominations here for discussion as well.

******

Looks like a lot of fun! FWIW, my nominees were:
5) Chii (a long shot and needs the points)
4) Misuzu (if she doesn't get in it'll be a crime)
3) Ayu (Kanon) (she still needs some points to assure her of getting in)
2) Akari (Aria) (I mean, duh!)
1) Osaka (Azumanga) (well... just because LOL)

Your Mileage WILL Vary :-D
Have fun voting and following your poor little defenseless and kawaii honeys into BATTLE!!!

(EDIT: There seems to be a server-end problem with the nomination page, so please try again later if encountering an error; at any rate there's a lot of other info there so you can research the data to come to an informed decision (or five)! )

Alot of my favorite characters are doing pretty well, except for Yurie. :iamdead:

There is this question that is always stuck in my mind: how come the Negima character support dropped so much after Topaz? Setsuna even won the necklace, but now she's barely clinging on to the 33rd place. :sigh:

Lots of mine are as well, except I wish that poor little Ayu would get back into the Top 16, which would assure her automatic qualification in next year's tourney. It's good to see another Yurie fan too; she's definitely a LOT moe-er than a lot of the contestants :10:

IMO, anyway LOL

As for the Negima aupport, my understanding is that Vietnam fans got wind of the tourney and mass-supported Negima in particular. Once it was over they dropped out again; I think they might have their own tourney going on; not sure.

With the emphasis being on the "International", some girls will do well here, but not so much with, say, the Japanese voters. Rozen Maiden is a good case in point; over here they don't do as well as with the voters from Japan, if I understand the various nationality loyalties.

That's why it's important for everyone to support their girls! For the link to the actual ISML voting site, see the top post and hit the top "Link!' you see. There are profiles and a list of all the nominees there, along with the voting page, of course. Most of all, have fun!

And please, please, don't let poor little Yurie go winless; she hasn't won a match yet! :please2:

Oh, Ayu is very sweet indeed! </33 I'd vote her over most of the contestants, even some CLANNAD ones.

I'm starting to reevaluate my votes, Fuko's especially. I'm starting to remember her arc in CLANNAD, and I feel shamed to be voting against her all the time.

Well, I dislike double-posting but this message is important enough for me to violate that policy once:

And thus, it has begun.
Emerald 6, the grand stage, is where Yurie will fight the most pivotal battle she had ever faced. This is where her fate's bond is at it's most vulnerable state, where she can finally put an end to this discrimination and humiliation that has followed her since the Beginning. A struggle for deference, dignity, honor, and Glory.

Awaken, fellow comrades! The time has come for us to let the World witness our determination, our verdict, and our will. Bring judgement to the souls of whom have exercised prejudice, cleanse the hearts of those blinded by evil, and cure the World of all jaundice.

Twenty-five seasons had passed since Yurie had rescued me, a miserable mendicant devoid of life and dreams. Her lenient and wise words instantly enlightened my damned spirit, and gave me a new essence to my existance. Context cannot convey the gratitude I hold for her. She had never wished for compensation, but had merely desired for others' well-beings. That day I inaugurated a vow, a covenant that I inscribed into my very soul.

Now she needs support, and succor her I shall. Be it the Ocean of Hell or the High Mountains of Heaven, I will endure and persevere. I had traveled the Seven Seas, relaying my philosophy and experience of Yurie to those who are willing. Now, agglomerate and gather dear friends, and persuade Nike, the Goddess of Victory, that Yurie is worthy!

DAMN, THIS SUPPOSED EMAIL NOTICATION FAILS!!!

Sorry I missed your response but I've NEVER gotten this mythical email response to notify me at any time. Pisses me off! :em02:

I think Ayu is my absolute favorite (except for Rika-chan who reigns supreme in her own little moe-bubble). It's a combination of her story, cuteness, height, good-naturedness, Yui Horie's VA work, and her animation. By the end of Kanon I totally loved her :kaiasu03:

Fuko is kind of a mini-Ayu (if that's possible LOL); but her chemistry works the same way on me, except that her story is shorter, but nearly as emotional, especially the way it resolves. I'll take a starfish from her anytime :nwc:

Yurie is slightly different in terms of moe-ranking; she's a younger girl, and so ever-so-slightly "untouchable" as it were. The secondary love story is cute rather than evocative, though I can remember my first love(s) pretty well and still can relate to her pining for Ken (and his obtuseness LOL).

Surprisingly, I loved Kamichu! very much despite its innocence, and will definitely buy it when I can. Way more entertaining than I expected!

And thanks for the excellent Yurie pics! I want that figurine... *sigh* So cute :lovelove:

Prophet EoA
07-07-2008, 04:09 PM
CLANNAD is indeed, really good. I personally feel that their characters deserve their support in this league, and I won't be blinded by the rage of them taking spots of possibly other worthy contestants.
:weddingpeach18:

Yurie is moe. That's one of the facts of this Universe!! :damn:

Ah... sorry got a little carried away there. It's just that I hate how the low popularity of Kamichu! causing Yurie to be discriminated.
:icey:

And finally about the girl judging moe part, I'll leave it to Ahasuerus to analyze it, as for some reason, I fail at thinking like a girl....

And finally about the girl judging moe part, I'll leave it to Ahasuerus to analyze it, as for some reason, I fail at thinking like a girl....

LOL! So I succeed at thinking like a girl?!?? :twitching:

That's not likely. But, since I do love girls, and empathize with them, I'll hazard a guess with regard to OrangeTree's Q:

Ahahaha, I wonder if a girl like me can even judge other girls' moeness?

Aw, hell yeah!

Wow, that was easier than expected :bingo:

Seriously, there are plenty of girls who are voting in the league and having no troubles deciding who is moe and who isn't. It's really a personal preference, and totally up to you.

There are sure alot of Clannad characters in this thing, but perhaps they are moe and I won't know (getting around to watch Clannad soon....)

Yeah, I know, and they knocked some of my favorite Kanon characters around too :omgnooo: Some Clannad girls, like Tomoyo and Kyou, seem too aggressive to satisfy my moe requirements, while a secondary character like Ryou seems quite moe to me (cute, semi-reserved, kind of clumsy, blushes etc).

The epitome of moe, as far as my personal tastes go, are Ayu from Kanon, Rika from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Yurie from Kamichu!, and Tsukasa from Lucky*Star, to name just a few of the contestants. YMMV

But yeah, Clannad is great, especially if you loved Kanon and Air. Even if you didn't catch those earlier series, Clannad will entertain you if you're into fine Story-telling...

So it's alright? ^^ I had thought that only guys have these attractions to anime girls. I'll try to vote for those who I feel is cute then since in the end I still don't know what defines moe :(

Oh, sure! Sometimes I think girls have a better idea of what's moe anyway LOL

Moe is a tricky thing to describe; even the Wiki is kinda vague. I think one of the biggest factors that go beyond "cute" is that an anime girl who is moe causes a desire for the observer to protect her; she is easily flustered, embarrassed, or hurt. Stuff like that. But it's really subjective, so just vote with your heart :bingo:

Since we've mentioned her already, Yurie from Kamichu! is a good example :em38:

Suuuure :hahaha:

Yurie is in my top fourth of my contestants' list (i.e. top 16, since there are 64 of them). Lists fluctuate too much though, so I haven't actually made one. The only "minus" in her appeal to me is that she's a bit too young, but really that's the only one. Such a sweetie :)

And even though Rika is even younger, her moeness is too overpowering to resist. Ni~paa!

Here's another girl I wish that had gotten in; she missed by only a hair: :th_osakawave: (I love Osaka :lovelove: )

Well, next year, perhaps with more people participating, maybe a greater diversity of girls will make it past the nominations :bingo2:

You know what scene I love the most? That very first one, with the alternating muted colors flashing and then changing to bright, and then the two begin their "long, long walk up that hill". Especially after the series is over and you can look back on it with perspective; especially after seeing the Clannad movie, which I Do NOT recommend due to extreme spoilers that aren't shown in the anime. They'll be included in Clannad's sequel airing (I believe) later this year. And I hope that no idiots spoil it for you :(

@Prophet:
Ah Azumanga Daioh...

AD is great! I liked it better than Lucky*Star, or did I say that already LOL Slightly less random but equally addictive. Soooo funny! The lecherous teacher is a crackup; he's the only male protagonist to speak of (and not really a good exemplar of males in general LOL) but makes up for it with his over-the-top scenes. Worth looking into, and Chihiro is super-moe! She's the 10-year old prodigy who I guess is the "mainest" character. Classic!

Everytime I see that, I'd be afraid to imagine how long that hill actually is.

Man, I sort of miss CLANNAD. When it was still airing, I went crazy over it, researching stuff here and there. In the end, I found the in-progress Bakatsuki translation project, and got the game. I also came across alot of spoilers, especially the one that told me ______ will ___.

When I went to Anime Expo a few days ago, I searched desperately for any CLANNAD-related items. I had expected to buy alot of Nag-... CLANNAD figurines and/or posters.

I found everything (even trading cards wth?) but figures and posters.

Saimoe in general eats up many people's time and lives, so it's best not to get too involved. I heard that Jmoe has devotees who spends every day doing related things, even more hardworking than a real life occupation. ISML pales in comparison.

I'd always been biased against Fuko.

But I've realized recently that just because Clannad has alot of characters in this, doesn't mean that I should hate-vote them. Come to think of it, Fuko should be one of the better ones as well. So now I turn a blind-eye to series name and just vote according to my heart.

Fuko's arc was so touching, moving, and sometimes funny but ultimately sad, especially when you really put yourself in the characters' shoes.

The moment when "they realized she was there" was ass-kicking in the extreme to me. That takes a combination of good story-telling and animation to get across.

But how come no one seems to vote Fuko and Ryou much in this tourney? :(

Because there is too much stupid hate-voting, and people like to hate some girls, and want to be part of a herd that says they should be hating these girls, and so the stupid sheep just vote against them because they want to be "cool" and "part of the crowd" or whatever LOLOL

That's how I see it anyway. It has little to do with their moe, although certainly with a few people they just might not be appealing. Out of 48 matches so far I've votes for Fuko 38 times, and Ryou 30 times; some girls will naturally be more moe. Fuko's arc melted me, and since she had more of a story and Ryou just a supporting character, Fuko gets more votes.

But if you just look at either Ryou OR Fuko, they have every moe characteristic. So, most people who vote against them are just hating, which is plain stupid, and has nothing to do with a REAL MOE tourney. This has long been a sore point, as I thought it was just a simple moe tourney, and not some BS popularity contest. Anyway, /rant off lol

Little loli Kotomi was awesome, wasn't she? (Don't let her play with matches LOL). She's the most moe Clannad girl to me (44 votes) while Nagisa is probably most-loved (46 votes). My having seen the Clannad movie probably boosted her some.

If you're curious, I've voted Rika from Higurashi all 48 times, and Ayu from Kanon 47, her one "against" vote was when she faced Rika. THAT was a tough decision :exhausted2:

Oh, by the way, did you know that Episode 24 of Clannad just came out? I came here to see if it was subtitled yet. Look for Tomoyo to get the lion's share of attention!

Her arc was pretty touching when you consider the whole arc and how it ended; when she was still little the b-day party that Tomoya was supposed to attend, her parents' absence, what they did while they were away, the "mystery man's" explanation, "the burning", a round-the-world-journey for the case, and what was inside of it... It may not have had a lot of action or comedy, but then every arc in an anime doesn't have to ;-)

And Mamiko Noto was great as Kotomi; her voice is so smooth!

Barefoot-in-the-library moe! :41:

Anyway, just my .02 :byeb:

What a cruel world this is :(

Also, I didn't even know there is a Clannad 24 until I saw your post! I just searched Wikipedia and found out that it's an OVA from the last DVD disc, in an alternate universe about Tomoyo?! I gotta get this! ^^

Yes, you will see some delicious Tomoyo moeness in there :onion10:

I can already imagine Tomoyo's dominance this year in the Saimoe universe, including ISML, J-moe, and K-moe. I kind of like Tomoyo's character anyways, so it's all good.

I'd rather have Yurie win a match though.

It was quite good to see Tomoyo's cute side for once ^^. And is the Clannad second season confirmed to air in Fall?

Yes, in Fall.

When the Clannad ~After Story~ announcement was still fresh, it was already announced that their DVDs are coming out in October, which basically means the series will air around that time.

Oh yeah, and I heard that the After Story will take drama and sadness to a whole new level. "Buy the tissues before they run out," says one random dude.

Well, I'm a sucker for these things, so I'm very excited. Let's see if this'll be the first anime to let a tear escape my eye.

If you haven't yet seen the Clannad movie then you might as well wait for After Story. But I was as messed up after seeing the movie (which After Story will cover) as I was after Air, which is saying a lot :omgnooo:

I'm sure that some twit must have spoiled it for you by now, but even so, it ought to be pretty hard. If you've seen Kimi ga Nozomu Eien (aka "Rumbling Hearts") it's kind of the same depth(s)...

So yeah, stock up on the paper products :dark:

Yeah, I have the movie, and I'm planning on waiting for After Story to come out first.

You're right.

Although not much, they were important stuff like how _________ will ______, and how the girl from Illusionary World is actually ________.

Surprisingly, the second spoiler was from Minhtam.

Who is Minhtam? I've noticed that person's name on the first post too. Is there an ISML topic in some other forum as well?

Minhtam is the founder of ISML. You can see him semi-regularly in the AnimeSuki ISML thread ([Only registered and activated users can see links]).

And yes, people had been making an effort to promote ISML through creating threads in different forums. Unfortunately, most of them are dead, and this Nihonomaru one would be the same if not for your appearence.

Then maybe I should help and bump some of those threads?~

Hmm, I don't know if I should bother you on this though.

:weddingpeach18:

Well, if you still want to help, then can you bump the thread in Anime OST Forums ([Only registered and activated users can see links]), and the Anime Forum ([Only registered and activated users can see links])? Just those two are enough. :10:

But seriously, if you don't want to, just tell me. And thanks no matter the outcome!

"I'm sure you all know, but Yurie is a god.
But she's a little different from how we imagine a god to be.
She's clumsy... she forgot her homework the other day!
If you spend time with her, you'll see she's just a normal middle school student.
In fact, she might be kinda unreliable.
...
But, as I'm sure the people who have come for consult during lunch or after class know, she's a person who is geuinely concerned about the troubles of others.
That's not because she's a god, but because that's her true nature.
She's the type to do her utmost best for others' sake.
...
I'll bet it'll come to the point where we will have to help her out ourselves.
If you think, even for a little bit, that it'd be okay to share some hardships with Yurie, please vote for her.
I know I will!"

- Mitsue Shijou

The above quote was announced by Yurie's dear friend, Mitsue Shijou, as a campaign speech for Yurie's student council president election run. Nonetheless, I believe that that relates to my sentiment almost exactly.

Yurie is a middle school student, and a god -- a cute one at that. Yet her personality and her behavior is built upon her human self, and thus she retains her clumsy and naive persona. Being a god doesn't equates perfection. Her pure and caring heart is framed with her own hands, and is not merely gifted. Inferiority and superiority does not exist between her and the people around her. Everyone is treated with whatever help she can provide, and she, in turn, is assisted by Everyone in times of need.

I am one within that Everyone. One who will gladly share some hardships with her, and create a genuine friendship and bond. Be it student council president election for her dedication, or the International Saimoe League for her adorable personality, I will always support her.

Please lend a hand in as well! A character such as Yurie does not deserve this treatment. Let's keep on striving for that epic victory.

I know I will!

I'm sorry Prophet EoA that Yurie lost :( But it was only a low difference, so maybe next time, it'll work out ^^
