View Full Version : Reputation Abuse?

In order to make requests , you must at least have 10 post counts.
*sigh* Is there anyway we can maybe heighten this to about 30 again? Too many leechers. Most of the time I don't want to help people without any rep because they ask for extremely hard things to find and when I spend a few hours and I get what they want all I get is neutral rep in the first place.
So I'm wasting my time...
1- You must rep those who helped you in your request or even tried to.
No one seems to follow this one, so could we enforce the rules here people. There is a shitstorm of people who just are either, to lazy to add to other peoples reputation, forgetful, or just plain want to leech. I'm getting sick and tired of it and It's making me not want to help others and just forget about uploading things for people in the first place. If I get nothing, not even the satisfaction of making others happy by uploading I'd like some damn green bars to show that I atleast tried!!!!
3- Have fun !!
It would be if people remembered the Karma button!!!!!
In addition: This forum is not a warez forum so do not ask for any warez contents as they will be removed.
so reqeusts like: "please get me this crack/software..." and so on will not be tolerated.
Well I've seen that around a fair bit, should we even have this rule still? Most games come with the stuff in the .rar .zip /whatever already. :em04:
Lastly, what I'm trying to say is people please don't be so stingy. Please thank and add reputation to us hard working uploaders who devote their bandwidth, time and sometimes money (for premium accounts) to help others who are too stupid or too lazy or unable to find what they are looking for.
I work for reputation I don't put some stupid crap in my sig saying "If you like my posts please rep me". That talk is garbage.
Thats all I have to say. Because with a 100KB Upload speed you would be pretty stupid to get on my bad side.
I can upload a few GB/s per day and if I get a few points per Upload because I KNOW I'm not wasting my time, I'll happily do it.
Lastly, I'm assuming that if I have been seeing people starting Rep pools I am to report it to Arika or Christie?

Ok i've increased it to 30 as for rep well it is up to you... Some ppl de-rep those who just ask for stuff and never rep back other tell them to rep first before they could post the links they asked for , their many ways, so it is really up to you, which way you want it to be.

^^well do business *request* with me...I'll rep at once*if i still have them for the day* if i get the results i want =D
I don't really care if I'm repped or not. I help whenever I can because I like to do so. I have my 55 rep (and I think You have it too) so I'm able to access almost anything. I'm happy like that.
I guess people are different...

well, rep can be a tricky and sensitive subject.... however I, (for one), do not care much for rep pools or alt repping...
I don't have much rep here, as I really came in as a mod, but as a contributor on other forums, (in the past), I always had the rep first, and not getting repped from some people has always been a problem. Sometimes I simply would put their future requests down my priority list, but mostly, I did the requests 'cuz I liked it and I was fast. Whom you do requests for is up to you though, as well as why you do them.

I think theres an easy solution.
Threads should more rep oriented in the first place. Example:
[Request] *insert whatever* links on megaupload
1st Post: Can someone please find me links for *whatever* on megaupload?
1st Reply: I found 'em. I will post after you rep me.
--------------
Case 1: User reps, person helps and posts.
Case 2: User reps, person does NOT help. (If this is the case, PM me and I will personally deal with the case, so as to not burden other mods)
That way, rep is always given when helping, and in case of any mishaps, I'll neg wise guys and give an infraction. Note that if the person *tries* to legitimately help, the rep remains. In case of disagreements, I'll solve the problem.
A lot of work for You. :)

Just make sure you pm me whenever theres a problem, it's hard to keep track of it all :)
I don't think You'll get too many PMs from me. ^^
Don't want to burden You. :P

So for example....
I want a date with Christie....
DDv pays Christie like 5 super rare hentai dvd's for one night to the anime convention or anything like that...
So then DDv posts that he arranged it.
I rep him.
Next day you call and say that I am a nerd and that you do not want to date me....
Resulting in no goods while I did pay...
So can I PM you then for a refund????
(just asking in advance with a flinch of sarcasm. ;) ... I think you will see the point most honest people will see here in pre-repping.)

Thats a cute post ^_^ but to be perfectly honest I'm not sure I understand the point myself.
In a request thread, theres at least two people involved, the guy who started the thread and one person who says they can help. Once someone posts claiming they know they can help, the first poster reps the helper and informs in the thread that he did. Then, the helper posts his solution in the thread, transaction succeeded. Of course, if someone says they're gonna help, then get the rep, and after 3 days they say nothing, PM me.
In case there's multiple people trying to help:
During the time when a solution has not yet been posted, anyone can apply to help. The first one to help within that period is the one entitled to the rep, but IMO, personally, I would rep everyone who tries to help.
It's best to rep everyone who tries to help until the solution is found, because that way not only are you rewarding genuine help, you're creating the idea that you're a reliable person, and as such, next time there will be more people willing to help you.
Lastly, I'm assuming that if I have been seeing people starting Rep pools I am to report it to Arika or Christie?
It's like this: It's *wrong* to create groups for repping people around for no good reason, and therefore, discussion and fomentation of said act within forum boundaries is subject to an infraction, followed by a neg of mine because I say so. *However*, we have better things to do than checking everyone's rep 24/7. So basically, don't discuss rep whoring and you'll be fine. Which is to say, rep is here for everyone's benefit, and if some people start abusing it, it will create ghettos of low repped people who can't get any higher. Use rep if you find it appropriate, it really is for your own good, whether on the short, or long run.

I think I'm going to ask the most retarded question in the world, but where do you see how many reputation points you have? I can't exactly find the number.
Go to User CP. You'll see a 'Latest Reputaion Received' table. You can see Your total rep points in the upper right corner of this table.

Thanks a bunch!
If you do not care about getting rep, then you don't need to worry that much.
So I don't have to follow the rules (when I'm helping someone)?

I think actually the way Christie does it, people will actually keep in line. Sounds good and all and I don't think it'll be much work for her you can navigate around the Admin section pretty easily these days.
P.S Thankyou Arika for making it 30 again.

well, how bout the neutral reppers?
Check the requests section, you need 30 posts to begin requesting things, which should give you minimum rep power.
So I don't have to follow the rules (when I'm helping someone)?
Pretty much. If you wanna help right away and don't care about getting the rep or not. The new rules are here to cover your ass ;)

Neutral rep does nothing. It can mean you were either negatively repped or positively repped but your base reputation did not increase/decrease because the person who added Karma did how have any reputation to give to you in the first place.
You must earn reputation to spread it around.

They do mean something!! but its power are very low, remember everyone new on this forum started with default rep ;) that means, if it was like that neutral rep means nothing then no one would have been getting green bars. So 5-10 neutral rep, adds 1 point and then you take it from there. Also post count give you reputation, i beleive every 250 posts you gain 1 more rep power, Not point
You take the risk of being repped or not, If you actually feel you wasted time/bandwidth/money (?LOL) helping someone, Then you shouldn't of helped in the first place. Hell be lucky if you get a thank you.
To be honest the rep systems and thank you systems are sorta dumb, Sure I like the forums with a 1 click "thank you" button but meh, Do you really need that large of a e-penis? Does it really matter that much? For me helping someone on the net be it with helping them find something or fixing someone knowing they got it is self satisfaction enough for me.

Although It may sound greedy, something that will make you click the thank you to download the file.

Basically the thankyou button has to store the thankyou's in a forum count. And it is a pain in the ass to do that. It is always buggy since a thankyou is done verry soon. It is one click and done.
A repuation button instead has to be clicked I approve or I disapprove. And then there is also a reason. So basically it is putting it in a table in the database that could be optimized a bit. Like max 5 history and then it is points to the person. (Sorry if it does not make sense... But it is not really important).
But with a thankyou button it is almost hammering the webserver. Thus it becomes buggy :P
The reputation does not mean allot. It is an extra feature and it gives some priveledges. It is in place so that people work hard for a good community in my eyes and to thank people or give people a way to thank others for their services.
But basically the most adored members are the ones that have stayed on the forum for a long time. They are the ones who helped to build up the community...
Reputation comes naturally. And if you deserve it then you will get it. If you just post random things/not helping/complete being useless :P... then you will not get allot of reputation :)
Real reputation comes with time and participation/being active. ;)
