Most people don't realize it, but many community libraries usually carry a couple dozen complete anime series. It's usually faster than downloading them, totally legal and ethical, and you get the extra goodies that are almost never uploaded. Also, it's a lot easier to rip the sound track from a dvd chapter, than trying to extract it from a video file.

If i could be so fortunate...at its 'peak' my local library carried a VHS of Sailor Moon S, and then I didn't know what that was. I would love to come to your library though :-p

Hmm, there is a few, but not enough in the Library in my area.
They have a Few VHS, but they are like animes with the 1980 Old Animation style *I don't have a VSH player, lol*
The only DVD Anime stuff they have is like a couple "Hayao Miyazaki" Films like "Kiki's Delivery Service", "Howl's Moving Castle", and "Spirited Away"
Not many Anime Titles in my Town Library, lol besides it's all stuff I've seen anyways, lol.

Guess I'm just lucky, then. Where I live, libraries are run by the County, with the bigger cities each having their own seperate library system. Even better, the two biggest counties have some sort of sharing arrangement that lets cardholders in one county get a library card in the adjacent county without having to pay any nonresident fees. ahhhh, life in the pacific northwest is sweet. Only downside is that Microsoft lives out here, too.
I've also lived in cities where the city library was the only option, and they do kind of suck. For some reason, city libraries are so stuck up about letting nonresidents use their facilities. They don't seem to understand the cooperation concept. I've got a friend that lives within tacoma city limits, and, because the city library doesn't want to share, he can't use any of the county libraries.

The Libraries in our area can't afford to have full collections and such because they would be stolen all the time, lol.
I live in Council Bluffs Iowa, which is right across the river from Omaha Nebraska, which happens to have at least 5-10 crimes daily that's TV news worthy...

Wish my library had anime:iamdead:
But the only kind they have is the entire season of cowboy bebop on dvd. Well look like I have to fullfill my anime desires on their manga selection (quite a lot too) :defeat:
Also, not lucky.
No library within 30 miles of me has any anime in their collections. But, they do have 1000+ historical vhs and dvds... Theft would occur way too much too. People just aren't very trusting around where I live, which is around Sioux City, Iowa.

Yeah, the local library does have a problem with theft, such that any anime or manga places on reserve has to be picked up in person at the card services desk, rather than shelved in the 'on hold' section.
Ya know, if everybody limited themselves to habits they could afford, the world would be a much better place.

I think my local carries a few (I seen Cowboy Bebop the movie there once. I haven't been in there in about three years now.) I might take a run over there today after my meeting at work to see what they have.
Haha, yeah, it took me a ridiculously long time to realize that my college library had a huge collection of anime, even some of the more obscure ones like Chavelier D'Leon.

Yeah i know. I frequently visit my local library to raid their stock. They also have a little anime club that meets the 1st wed of every month.
My library has a whole shelf dedicated to manga. Actually, that's how I started reading manga in the first place, being curious as to what those picture books on the shelves were about.

True that, but in some towns they do not have it, also some of us do not have DVD rom drives, in which case downloaded is better. The goodies are to be missed though. thats why I am buying Code geass on DVD. Thanks for the tip. If I ever move, or go to college out of my hometown I will be sure to check for my favorite anime.

Zomg - anime at the library sounds awesome my library i extremely doubt they have it. Come to think of it i'm not sure that a) my library is still where it used to be, b) if they remember who the hell i am and c) if they even know what a dvd is....

The local libraries here are also up to date on new releases and there are entire sections dedicated to manga and anime. If I can't get to a computer or have missed out on a few chapters, i usually drop by one of our libraries and catch up between my study(cramming) sessions. :hot:

Lol I find lots in the local library called the "Internet"... tbh I haven't been to a library since elementary (aside from the college library I've been to) so I haven't seen any animes in them, besides there are no libraries near where I live right now, but I have the largest library in my bedroom inside my PC \(^-^)/

Hidy hidy,
God I wish my library had anime... The closest they've got is the original Transformers (which, I have to admit was a little fun.) But, like the woes of many of you, it was on VHS, which I haven't got any longer. x.x
Another place that surprised me, other than a library, was free offers online. You have to do those "complete x number of offers" things, but most of them let you cancel something after thirty days and it still counts. I wouldn't wanna do it, by my friend does.
Adieu,

We have some Anime at our local library (the next closest town with a library is 50 miles away), but we get a lot of Anime from a Hastings, a local video/music chain.
They sell new DVDs, but also buy used ones. We start by looking for the used ones. The store has a 100% money back guarantee that the DVDs will work OK, but so far, we have never had to bring one back.
(Knock on wood)
Also, we have sold partial sets when we got the full series. Give someone else a chance to see them and get cash back.
To buy more Anime!!
(They also buy and sell manga).

I wish I live in where you are. Never even see anime in my local library. They do have cartoons if you don't what I mean. You can find manga like Doraemo there as well.
