View Full Version : Afro Samurai
Let me get your thoughts on this Anime. I love the style that these kinds of animes are drawn. However I was a bit iffy on purchasing this because of the whole Samual L. Jackson thing going on.
If anyone has seen this...let me know what you think of it :D

I thought it was good, it's not an amazing series but its got some great molments and Samuel L Jackson does an awesome job, it's an example of how dubs can be good in anime once in a while
also it's only like 4 episodes so you can watch it quickly and it won't have wasted alot of time if you hated it...
Awww crud...so it's like the awesome 6 episodes of "Fooly Cooly"?
lol....hmmm....So far it sounds cool. I do like the art alot...it gives me the felling of Vampire Hunter D and Ninja Scroll...*hooray for that*

Lone samurai, bloody battles, poweful enemies, and a simple yet exciting story.
This anime has it all!!:em001:

Seen it... loooove the style, it's like cool raw sketches coming to life and the story is an old "hollywoodesque" revenge and so forth.
Since its only 5 episodes, the anime doesn't let you get emotionally envolved with the characters, leaving lots of questions unanswered, not that its a bad thing, since it delivers all the action needed to entertain the most apathetic of us... so yeah i enjoyed it!
In short... if your way to spend a nice afternoon involves a bad-ass mofo with a sword and loads of slashing about, this is the anime for you.

its soo close to being as good as FLCL it scares me, i bought the Directers (that looks misspelled) Cut and it was worth it. You'll laugh, you cry (maybe), but most of all you'll enjoy every second of it!!

I liked it. Twin personality Afro FTW. I liked the english sound, because it was at a professional level, not like the other damn english dubbing amateurs.
The story is for more episodes, now many things aren't clear.

this anime is, how can I say this: there is much blood, action, it's not bad anime, but not for me (I really don't know why?)

wasnt bad, actually was much much better then i expected.
i saw it on HD which made it look much different - the quality of the fights is great, and the action and character designs are perfect... storyline's quiet a dull though...

I bought it, I watched it, I threw it away(Literally), and never gave it a second look. So I have no regrets, except for the part of buying it...
Don't get me wrong, creators of Animatrix did a good job. It has that Samurai Champloo type of Action. I haven't watched it in Japanese Subtitles and I thought the voice acting sucked. That sidekick of his never shuts up, his enemies talks Gansters even if they're not Black. So I was like "WHAT THE FACK!!!!"
And for the worst part is, Samuel L. Jackson barely spoke throught all the episodes! I mean literally, how much did these people paid him for doing a couple pages of dialogue!? I'm even surprised that he accepted the role...

I liked it up until the last episode. The action was very well-done and I liked Sam Jackson's voice performance. I just thought the ending was a bit rushed.

How aggressive. Why not pay a little more respect? I finally watched the show and felt it was good for the style it was provoking. Apply the concept of "giving everything a chance" to the concept of "justice is blind" and you'll gain a bigger library.

When I saw the first episode, I was immediately hooked. The premise is much different from any other samurai series, and the incorporation of hip-hop and rap themes is seamless. The action sequences are pretty good, different but good, as the artwork is unique to anime series. I would definitely recommend this series, the uncut version if possible. Samuel L. Jackson does a pretty good job, and the other voice actors are top notch as well.
A good series.

The voice acting stands out for me, Samuel L. Jackson's voice was well-suited to the roles he voiced. I think he had plenty of lines; between the ninja and Afro himself he had a good deal.
The story is a good one as well, even if it's only reallythere to pass off the awesome fight scenes.
Personally I preferred it to Samurai Champloo.

i can't wait for season 2. i hear its gonna be aired in the winter season. but Afro Samurai is definitely one of my favorite action animes.
Well, I have to admit, the one thing that caught me the most were the highly stylized fight scenes. They are quite memorable.

I remember when my friends and I first watched it, we didn't stop cheering the entire time, man...I can't wait to see what else will happen
yes that anime was really something different compared with others, and i mean a nice difference, the 5 episodes were nice but a bit short. Can't wait for Afro Samurai Resurrection, i hope its gonna be as awesome as the first season was.

I watched it cos it seemed interesting; Samuel L Jackson in it and a samurai with an afro :D
I think Samuel did a few of the voices in that show too, right?
I enjoyed the anime and thought it had some cool looking fight scenes in it.

I loved Afro Samurai, I thought it was amazing, I was disappointed at the end, but then they finally came out with a movie for season 2 and it was extremely good. They hinted that they were going to continue the series at the end of the movie, I cant wait to see how it turns out.

Incredible...and Gorey to the extreme but it worked with the style they used. For only 5 eps sit down and watch it for the cool fight scenes.

Afro Samurai is one of my favorites. i have the series and the the movie and both of them are awesome. the quality of the animations brilliant:wakuwaku:and the discussed violence is one of important things in this story. sure the story isn't "that" genius except the fact that the main charcter is an afro american samurai. the synchro with samuel l. jackson as afro and ninja ninja is very cool. the first time i saw the anime, ithougt ninja ninja and afro had differnt speakers. the soundtrack is from the rza (a guy from the wu tang clan) he has made the soundtrack for kill bill, too. I'm not a big fan of hip hop but i like this soundtrack.

It's good, but at some certain point i think it's copying some other animes. It's style and so on.Anyhow ,it's a good anime.
