okay so i want port forward and i have a westell 6100 model
i type the default ip address, 192.168.1.1.
im at the screen and i go to configuration and it asks for username and password which by default is
username: admin
password: password

I type that but i cant get in! it just asks for the username and password again!

I also have wireless router as well, a netgear WGR614v6 model thats hooked up. could that be interfering somehow?

I'm not sure about the model config, but when i put in the login info for mine, i just put in admin, and leave the password area blank.

I'm not sure if that would work in ur case.

If you can't get into your router configurations using the default username and password then you might need to reset the it back to its factory settings and try again...unless you've already done all that. Sorry I can't help you more.

hmmm reseting the modem, im pretty sure that will fix it.
But will that mess up my wireless router in anyway?

Yea, you should unplug the other router before trying to access your main router. And btw, did your Westell 6100 come as part of a DSL package? It may have come with a different login/pw because of that.

Do you have the box or instructions with it? Otherwise, keep trying default logins. Unless someone has already changed the login?

kelesis is right. You are probably access the netgear by mistake. I think the default password for netgear is admin. If that works then you know that you are not access the main router. Check the netgear user manual or download the manual from the netgear website. 2 routers on the same network can cause multiple problems if not carefully setup. You must disable DHCP on the secondary router so that it only functions as a hub and not a router. To have 2 routers on the same network with DHCP enabled requires a bit of setup juggling. Not difficult but more than complicated enough for this forum. You should also set the second router to be address 168.192.1.2 instead of the default.
