View Full Version : Recent Computer Problems
My first problem is with Nero 6. Mind you, I bought my current computer from a relative for a seemingly good price about a year ago. I came with Nero 6(apparently came with the burner-Memorex DVD RW Dual Layer 16x) I soon after installed Windows 98SE(since it's the only OS I own) I was using the programs of Nerovision 2. It wasn't working correctly(was trying to make AMVs)
So, I uninstalled it using add/remove programs. Restarted. I went to go re-install it. I got this error: Error 1 ([Only registered and activated users can see links])
So, I looked up the file and clicked properties. It looked fine. I double clicked it and got this error: Error 2 ([Only registered and activated users can see links])
I then, went to the nero website. They had a cleaning tool. I used it and restarted. Still the same errors. So, I looked at the installation files, and it also had a cleaning tool. I ran that. Same errors still.
I need the progams because it's the only thing to burn and/or video editing. I will not download Nero 7 due to the fact that my computer got a disk write error each time I tried to download it for some reason. Any suggestions?
My second problem is that my burner made the most annoying sound the other day, before all this happened, when I was coping one of my DVDs to my hard drive. It was so bad, I had to take the DVD out. I couldn't bear the sound it was making. It was the third DVD I was coping to my hard drive in like a 30 minute interval. I took it out and retried after about 20 minutes afterwards, but the sound persisted. I tried again the next day, but I walked out of the room when I did that DVD again. Other DVDs didn't make the sound. Any ideas?

I have nero with install for 6.3 I believe and I can give you a few keys for it if you like. It will also burn dvds and cds. PM me when you get the chance ok and we can talk about it ^^
98 Wtf :-/...Someone has to get you XP..I don't really got much of a solution for that...I could give you 7.0.2 with a crack...It should work on 98...Also your dvd drive may be going if its making noises :-/...Was it a screetching kind of noise or what?
yeah, that was what it sounded like... Do I need to get another drive?
Oh, and the XP thing. I finally got 98SE about 2 years ago. I know XP has been around forever...but I couldn't afford XP nor could my computer handle it at the time. When I got my new computer, still no XP installation disc(s). The computer didn't come with a Hard Drive.

My recommendation is you get a new computer altogether. Never trust relatives and never trust friends trying to sell you 2nd hand material. In fact, I recommend you trust them less than any other stranger you would buy 2nd hand material from. Next point, never buy 2nd hand computers. A new computer these days will most likely have better specs than a 2nd-hand one for a similar price. (You just need to find the right specialist shop.)
For you problem specifically, try searching for the file using the windows search utility and running it manually. If you can't find it, just find your nero files and do a manual delete of the files. As with the DVD drive, I agree with Blu.

well.. im sure if you type a search you can find the specific files yer missin on the internet... as for your noise problem... either your drive is dying, it needs to be SERIOUSLY cleaned, or there may be a chance somethings out of place
To be specific I bought the computer since it was way better than my previous. 10x the RAM of my old computer.
Here's What I got:
AMD Sempron 2200+
960.0MB RAM
OS: Mircosoft Windows 98 Second Edition
CDROM: Memorex DVD 16+/-
HD: Seagate 40GB
HD Slave: Seagate 200GB
HD Spare: Seagate 200GB
No Floppy Drive(laugh...)
Motherboard: Biostar M7VIG 400
Built on Graphics and Sound Cards
Normal old wired keboard
Laser wired mouse
Normal old wird microphone
Thrustmaster Fusion Digital Gamepad(only works with Windows 98-but hardly use)
IBM E74 Monitor
I actually had problems getting XP...no stores around me have it. All have Vista or nothing.
And you're probably right on not buying from relatives... But, I may just get rid of my computer altogether. But...I'm addicted to the internet and my amvs...

the noise you are talking about might come from that your dvd drive is loose, and as long as the dvd's you put in it don't get scratches from the drive or the dvd's have big scratches(by big scratches i mean to the point where you can feel them, if they are that big, the whole dvd or cd can break into 100 pieces inside your dvd-rom and be lucky if the laser isn't destructed) it should be ok.

Burn4Free always works great...
I got a new problem:
I have XP home edition. I have a pretty crappy internet service provider. Well, it was down for a few hours. When it was back on, my computer came up with the following message: Your computer is having a IP address conflict with another system on your network. Well, truth be told. We have plenty of other systems on the network, like 4. 3 wireless laptops/notebooks and 1 PS3. They all work, but this is the first time I got the message. Is there a way to get the message from showing(appearing)? And would this have any impact on the PS3 with the constant DNS and server errors?
Yes, there's a high chance that they're related.
Could You provide more information on Your connection type?
Right now the only suggestion I have is to restart the router and see waht happens.
I changed my IP through means of ipconfig/release and getting one automatically. The error went away...but wasn't too sure on everything else. We have DSL 1meg/s and we pay $80/month.

I pay 57USD even for 1 meg.
Well it's solved for the moment. Let us know if it happens again. ;)

I had a problem two months ago where my PC just suddenly keeps freezing on startup. At first the tech guy said it was something wrong with my RAM, and true enough when he removed one of the DIMMs my system now booted okay (except now with lower RAM).
A month later, my PC was freezing on startup again, and I decided that it was time to upgrade. From 1GB of DDR2-533 I decided to upgrade to 2GB of DDR2-667, figured if I'm gonna upgrade, might as well go the whole nine yards. RAM is cheap right now. So again my PC is working fine again.
It happens a third time, however, and now I'm seriously thinking something's wrong with my motherboard, maybe ruining my RAMs. Scratching my head in frustration, I binged on Chocolate Crunchies from the fridge while trying to figure out what the heck was wrong.
An otaku's computer is his wife. If his PC is sick, he also cannot settle down and do nothing.
Then I remembered I had installed a USB hub a couple months before. I've always had trouble with the darn thing -- only one of the four ports work, and not reliably at that. I know I should have returned it, but I just could not find the time. I also remembered that soon after installing it I also began encountering such weird stuff as my PC randomly beeping, as if a USB device were being put in and pulled out in rapid succession.
Desperate at this point to try anything, I decided to give it a shot -- and remove the darn thing. Gritting my teeth, I crouched behind my PC (my USB ports are on the back) and pulled the hub from my system. Not really expecting anything to happen, I sank into my chair and lifelessly pushed the switch on.
And then...
SWEEEET RASPBERRY JAM ON A PIZZA! It booted properly!
I don't have the technical expertise to even try and explain how the heck a USB hub could cause that kind of sickness on my PC, but that's what happened. Maybe some of you know and would like to enlighten me on what the heck happened.
