i like dubbed cause it is easier to follow but you do get the voices that don't really fit the character but i like subbed cause it more informative and it is an easy way to pick up on japanese. so it is a toss up but i would say in the end subbed.

If you've seen the anime subbed before you've seen it dubbed your not gonna like it dubbed. Some animes are dubbed nice like gundam wing and dbz was okay and pokemon just to name a few.

I agree on the DBZ and Gundam Wing and a few others being well-dubbed. I can watch those series now and still enjoy them, probably because I haven't heard those series in the original Japanese. Now, when I see an episode of R.O.D (for example) in English, it just doesn't sound right to me, I can only watch stuff like that subbed.

Subbed, most and I mean most dubbed versions have horrible voice acting nothing compared to the original japanese at least.

I like subbed because I'm japanese and understand all if not most of what they are saying. I like subbed more than raw because I understand english better than japanese. But most of the time there will be errors in the subs sadly. By the way, I'm american or rather japanese american.

Usually I'd prefer subbed...but at times it all depends on how well they've dubbed a certain anime. Unfortunately, most of the time it can be quite a disaster.

Subbed is much better. They have a wide pool of japanese voice talents that they pick to match the character. But when they dub, they only have a limited amount of dubbers and the characters end up sounding weird in English.

I personally can't understand why people would prefer dubbed anime over subbed. It's not hard to read dammit! lol

The Japanese voices are far superior to any over version. It actually feels like they give a crap about the show and get more into the role of the characters they are playing making it seem more "real"

tl;dr - Subbed ftw

I can see why some people like dubs, but personally like quite a few people by the looks of things, I strongly prefer sub. True there are often mistakes in translations and etc.. But somehow it feels more natural. The voice acting in the dubs feels forced because you rarely ever hear high timbre english, whilst japanese in high timbres is completely normal XD. Though at times I do realise that I miss small details that i would normally pick out because I was too busy reading the sub.. lol. Better learn Japanese properly eh? T.T <(^.^<)

I like the subbed one. Dub is boring (almost all anime lost it's emotion when dubbed so it's will make u boring)

Subs are usually way better but there are some decent dubs out there (GITS:SAC) but I do agree dubs usually suck (GS+GSD *shudders)

Usually I prefer subbed but there are some greek dubs that is so ridiculous that it makes the anime 10 times funnier(if it is comedy)

Subs, definitely. I like the japanese language and it's good to get accostumed to it (if you want to learn it).

Subbed all the way. There are some good dubbed series, but in general they are done really badly, and it's disguting to watch.
Also I like how japanese voices sound.

Subbed is much better. They have a wide pool of japanese voice talents that they pick to match the character. But when they dub, they only have a limited amount of dubbers and the characters end up sounding weird in English.

That Pretty Much sums it up for me, though I will admit (Usually after I've seen the entire series) I do go back and watch it dubbed with subtitles.

Sometimes when I watched it in subbed, no dubbing, I use my imagination to imagine what they would sound like in english, but dubbing is like, crushing my dream and makes me think I just wasted time imagining.

Subbed generally, though I always seem to watch FLCL dubbed because of how many times I saw it that way.

I prefer dubbing because not only It's the english language and It's the only one I could understand. It's just more easier to deal with. Reading subtitles down at the screen kinda take my eyes off the actions happening in the anime.

subbed because i'm a fast reader and also it sounds wierd looking at image and listening to a dubbed version.

01-29-2008, 03:11 AM
well, both won't be able to give the feeling of knowing that language, that's why I'm gonna learn japanese asap :)

I'd say subbed, because dubbed-talks generally lack emotions...

Definitely subtitles.
My hearing is severely lacking at times.

My thoughts exactly.

Mhhhh, it absolutely depends on the anime. Not every anime is being dubbed by the same persons. Some are dubbed GREAT! Others pretty lousy. Normally I watch them in Japanese, but at times, when I'm more lazy, I just watch the anime dubbed in English, French or German. But I looove watching them dubbed in French, it's a great pratice for me. But as I said, it always depends. And the Japanese dub is NOT always the best. It's the original, of course, but sometimes dubbers can interprete the emotions even better than the original seiyuus.

i think subbed, because sometimes dubbing just ticks me off, especially with those lousy dubbers*cough*

I can go for ether. Some times I like to play WoW with it on in the back ground and seeing how I suck at Japanese's dubbed is better but if there is a good anime i like that is subbed it's not like I won't watch it.

i rather choose to get subbed cuz for me it 's sounds better than the people who dubbs (english).

I preffer subbed, because sometime's dubbed really sounds wrong, and i like the japaneese language.

Ghostere

i greatly depends ion the show.
some shows has japanese actors doing the voices - mostly woman voices - awfully. it sounds very much a like a scream and it becomes quiet annoying aventually...
on the other hand... it is ussually better then dub.

although i watch mostly subs, there are some great example in which english does the job well (as in dubbed cowboy bebop, or the original Afro samurai in english).

Either is fine, as long as the voices are good.

Few years ago I'd say "as long as the dub doesn't annoy me...", but now I'm subs only.

It mostly has to do with me watching fansubs first - there's no point in watching it any other way on DVD - why bother getting used to new voices?

There are dubs which I do enjoy, say R.O.D. (both OVA and TV) though I'm sure many wouldn't agree here.
