Shadow Hearts 1 was pretty good. Very Lovecraftian game.

I want to say the Suikoden series is underrated. I also liked the Ryu Ga Gotoku series ("Yakuza" in America). 2 so far is especially good.

hmm, i'd say zelda:majora's mask. It is respected though, just not as much as I think it should be. The game just exudes artistic beauty.

Street Fighter III Third Strike. I personally think it was the best fighter for it's time and maybe the best of all time. A very unique and balanced game, it's not a button masher (which I like the most) and it's a very rewarding game if you learn to parry

'Exile' by Spidweb Software for the PC. not graphics intense but a great game none-the-less.

Baten Kaitos on the Gamecube was overlooked I think. It got good reviews but I never see anyone talk about it.

The game is beautiful. The environments are like lush paintings that come to life, the music is very nice, the story is decent, and the battle system is very unique. While it has some flaws like lackluster voice acting, it's a very good game and too few people have played it, in my opinion.

Yo for me number one which should be more respected over the whole world is definitely Gothic! That's such a good adventure role play game and it already became more popular in the worl but parts 1-3 could still be known way more.
I really recommend everybody to try that game and can give more infos if needed^^

Shadow Hearts. I mean, I know it has been mentioned a lot here but it was recommended to me by Gabe himself (yes penny arcade's Gabe) and I was VERY positively surprised.

What about painkiller? The game is well put together, has a killer engine (runs on my wooden PC at max settings and looks gorgeous) and is addicting.

Never heard much about painkiller but always thought it was pretty sweet.

i didn't like both painkiller games that much ... and at least it was hyped a lil bit in germany

Νinety nine nights. Most of the critics buried it but I gave it a chance and I really enjoyed it. Much much better than the Dynasty Warriors series.

As mentioned allready, the Shadow Hearts series (1 and 2 moreso than 3 IMO...). And also an old PS1 game called Xenogears, nowhere near enough recognition for that game. It's a classic on the same level as Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy -- (pick your favorite one, lol).

Siren (a.k.a Forbidden Siren in some country).
Scariest game I've play since the first Silent Hill on PS1. (no wonder, they were made by the same guys.)

Evil Zone, for what it had to offer it was pretty enjoyable and at least deserved a sequel. Tobal 1 and 2 need more props too.

Suikoden and Shenmue. I'm really pissed off that Yu Suzuki has put Shenmue 3 on fucking hold. Seriously, that is by far one of the greatest games that i've ever played. I badly want to see how the story ends. Come on, Suzuki-sama, you need to do it!!

Disgaea, Phantom Brave, Makai Kingdom etc etc. Deserve to be more than niche. (refine srpg and endgame content concepts)

Chulip, that has to be the one game I haven't seen get any love from Gaming mags. It's really a good game, but moves at a slow pace. The game has a lot of thing I like about it, the feel of the game, the characters, the wacky-ness of the game is why I like it.

Here in NY where fighting games are appreciated third strike makes a good 200$ a day so you can gaurantee this game is well respected even after its release 5 or so years ago

Another game i'd like to add is Kessen 2. Just started playing it again yesterday. Great stuff if you're into Romance of the Three Kingdoms, or just Real Time Tactics games!

The Nippon Ichi games. FFTA series should take a lesson from these gems on how you can have a cute, friendly storyline and characters and yet still possess an exciting and endearing tale to tell.

Also, Type-Moon and Touhou games by those put off by their tags of "hentai" and/or "doujin". Tsukihime/Fate are comparable to the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy in length, and Touhou is one of the most hardcore games I know.
