A lot of you know School Days and its horrible ending. I want to know if you guys would change the story if you had the power to do it? What would you change?

I really would change the story if I had the power. One of the reasons I want to play the School Days game is to change the outcome of the story.
If I really had the power to change the course of the story then I would place a character in the story to kick Makoto's ass. To beat some sense into him. It's cause of Makoto's obsession with sex and indecisiveness that Kotonoha went crazy.

Sure I would change it, so many great characters to play with, just so that everyone went home happy I'd make it so that the main character (havn't seen it in ages) goes out with both the main girls but with both there permission, like triple dating and more explicit stuff, dam I can be sick.

that's the same for me, even though this is a fictional story i still couldn't help but feel really bad for her throughout almost the entire show.

meeh~ if you ask me I think that ending was perfectly fine..considering what he did (*evil laff* bwhahaaha!). PLUS it was a sort of a mix of all of the game's bad endings. xDD

BUT, to change the story line and ending would be nice..and I have A LOT in mind. *evil smirk* That I need to write down first, since it's a REALLY long list.

..for the sake of the second game too, Summer Days, where he was still there. Yay H-games! xDD

No, I wouldn't change the ending of the anime, but I agree with you about playing the VN, hopefully someone translates it, but I fear that by that time I'll already be profound Japanese speaker/reader.

I wouldn't touch the ending. I love that ending, it's quite possibly the best ending for this anime that I could think of. Makoto god damn deserved what happened to him.

I agree that he deserved it but I still won't want katsura to go crazy.

I'd make it that Sekai would admit too Makoto from the very first time that they met that she likes him.
and Kotonoha would never have met both of them.

I think he deserved it too. But Kotonoha suffered a lot, and she went crazy. Talking to an imaginary Makoto on e dead cellphone and then sailing of into the sea with Makoto severed head in a bag. Makoto deserved it but Kotonoha shouldn't be also punished.

True, she didn't, and she was the main pity character because she could have very well been the perfect girlfriend... But then Makoto happened.

Yeah, that's also something I would like to see. In the visual novel (the game) you can do a lotta things. You can make sure that Kotonoha or Katsura kills Makoto without going crazy or make sure that Makoto stays loyal to Kotonoha.

Yeah, I also saw that part. I think the option where Kotonoha kills Makoto without going crazy is when Makoto tries to have sex with her little sister Kokoro. But they made a sequel of School Days (Summer Days or Cross Days, I can't remember which one) and in the visual novel Makoto still lives and Kokoro is old enough to have sex with him. I'm not completely sure though.

honestly the ending of School days is the reason why i loved it. Going crazy over this obsession as the main charector comes into manhood and realises how amazing the womans body is. he got what he had coming.

course i may change the fact that Kotonoha sleeps with his friend =\

you should also notice he says "thank goodness" or something like that (been awhile since ive seen this.) and she kinda stops in shock as she realises it.

How would I change School Days... hmm... well I like all the posts on this already pretty much... I would have him a little less of a sex addict and maybe go after only a couple girls not the entire school... Kotohana and Sekai dont go crazy... ya stuff like that... I dont know... I just plain hated Makoto which made me hate the show more than any other anime...

To be truthful, I would not change School Days ending. It made what the anime is, I found it was horrible and Makoto got what was coming to him. Perhaps if they did alter ending episodes, to show some different outcomes like in the game? Though I don't know, the anime was only 12 episodes long... I would of liked some things about Sekai being pregnant to be more clear.

They also made some more episodes:
School Days ~Magical Heart Kokoro-chan~ (OVA)
School Days ~Valentine Days~ (OVA)
School Days (ONA)

And there is also some kinda hentai episode they made. In that episode Kotonoha and Sekai both got pregnant with Makoto's baby. At the end of the episode they were planning on telling him about it on Christmas Eve I think as a 'gift'.

yeah..I agree with that..
I love this ending although its a bad and sad ending..
maybe you all can understand if you all put yourself in Makoto, Kotonoha and Sekai places..

i would kick makoto in the next deep river, put Sekai in a psychiatry and wish kotonoha a long and happy life (with anice guy). Its not a nice end but its realistic. Sekai and makoto were nuts and ruined Kotonohas life.
Makotos changed but he was to late.

then said they both got him a present
a present that can't be bought with money(you can guess what it is right)

I want to play the visual novel but it ain't in english yet. A group of brave people are making an english patch for the game but it's not complete yet.

Personally, I didn't like the tragic ending. If I were God to change the world of School Days, I would have to change the events that occurred before the unfortunate conclusion. If I were to change anything, I'd like to change the actions of the characters but still change their actions bound to the personalities that was demanded by the creator of School Days.
If I were to sympathize, I'd set up the setting so that Sekai does not encourage Makoto to confess to Kotonoha. While being uninformed about Makoto and Kotonoha’s mutual love, Sekai, taking advantage of the situation, would convey her feelings without conflicting it with any other potential lovers. I wouldn’t go as far to prevent Sekai and Kotonoha from being friends. Or else, there will be no conflict. With Sekai being the girlfriend, Makoto would be at ease because she is more bold, honest and direct than Kotonoha. From someone who is as strong willed and aggressive as Sekai, it would prevent Makoto from cheating on her, which would ultimately avoid the cruel corruption of Makoto’s characteristics. With that, I secured a joyous ending but then there would be no suspense in the middle. The love square ---it’s normally love triangle but since there are three girls who have a crush on Makoto I would have to add one more vertex--- would stimulate the plot. The competition would become very fierce as it would be in the original School Days. Otome, somehow finding out about Kotonoha’s secret about her crush, would abuse Kotonoha because she can’t accept any rivals. Then Sekai appears to protect Kotonoha from Otome’s bullying as an obligation of a friend. With this incident, Kotonoha becomes more comfortable and trusting towards Sekai and reveal her love towards Makoto. I believe the best climax for this would be the camera recordings of the Break Room. As Otome becomes desperate, she seduces Makoto and kisses Makoto forcibly. Makoto would refuse to have sexual intercourse with Otome; however, that would not be how Sekai would perceive. Seeing as how the camera recordings had video clips of all sexual intercourses, including the sexual intercourse of Nanami, Sekai would rush out before seeing anymore “possible” scenes after Otome’s kiss. Upset by the scene, Sekai, broken in tears, sends a text demanding if he did anything with Otome in the Break Room. Makoto denying that he didn’t do anything does not convince Sekai and forces her to suspect Makoto and eventually requests to break up with him. Kotonoha as a friend would listen to Sekai and learn of her story and then ask what Makoto of his “true” event. With that, she’d confront Otome with a firm ground and bring the truth to light. With that, the resolution would occur where Sekai would apologize sincerely and their relationship restored. To make MY School Days even more romantic, I’d add a scene where Sekai has her virginity taken from Makoto. But then, the crazy competition would not end because Kotonoha would kiss Makoto saying that “this is a secret.” Then School Days would end with a happy music ending where Sekai would get angry seeing that kiss and chase after Kotonoha and Makoto for kissing without her consent.

Even though I had said I did not prefer the ending set up by the director I would not dare challenge the director’s actions. If I were to change it, I don't think the intensity of the irony and the graveness of the story's plot would have been as a colossal if I were to acquire the authority to alter the events in School Days.
As eaz51 had said, this story is fictional; therefore, I do not have to worry about what has happened to the characters for they are inanimate. Nonetheless, I am not saying I don't pity them, but what I am saying is that if School Days were turned out to be romantic such as Clannad After Story, then the director's attempt to stir fear and immorality of polyamory into his viewers would have been meaningless.
For example, after watching School Days, I've realized that romance isn't all about sticking with one person you love and say that you love him/her and that you tell others that you are reserved like other typical romance such as Onegai Teacher or Shuffle and other media. One could have picked the wrong one to love and could end up loving another, which was Makoto's case where he ended up loving Sekai more than Kotonoha. If School Days had been a happy ending, I would have continued a desperate, romantic search for a girlfriend. However, after watching the fearful School Days, I have become hesitant in romance. With food, you can eat one thing that tastes bad but you don't have to keep eating the same thing; you can simply eat a tastier one. On the other hand, in human relationships, human morals and reason have conditioned us in such a way that it is a sin to abandon one’s companion. Thus, we tend to have regrets. For those who do not embrace human reason and responsibility strongly, such as Makoto, they become intoxicated by their sexual desires and suffer the justice of their consequences because they don’t give a damn about others' emotions nor the results of their actions. I believe showing this cruel School Days compared to other ecchi happy romances show the seriousness of love, and leave a great impact on the viewers to not make the same mistakes as Makoto does. However, it does not mean you can’t love; you can still love. The Christmas tree scene and the very last scene where Makoto and Kotonoha appear to be in ataraxia and joyous relief with each other’s presence illustrates that they’re in peace because they have finally been able to fulfill their love truly. These morals and themes of loyalty, betrayal, intemperance, reason, love, and indiscriminate sexual pleasure would not clash and would not create such a remorseful masterpiece, if I had many changes. I apologize for bickering on for too long but School Days has impressed me as greatly as Maeda Jun’s works of Air and Clannad.

While School Days wouldn't be nearly as popular as it is if not for NICE BOAT, it would be nice to see the "And to Kotonoha" end from the game where Makoto confronts Sekai and the bullies in the anime.

The only aspect of this anime I would tamper with would be to give it a god damn dub! I've very patient and I believe I will never get it. I don't think any studio wants to touch this train wreck. Honestly, while the anime had a gruesome ending, I wouldn't change a single thing about the anime itself. I enjoyed, while somewhat sickened/shocked by the ending.

still can't understand why people don't like the ending

the mental torture both girls had to endure throughout the series is much more horrible than an ending in a massacre could ever be
both girls had perfect developed characters and handled the ending accordingly

but yeah the whole sex addict thing made it a bit unrealistic

the fact that the anime made me hate makoto SO much is what made me love this anime
if a story has such a power to control the viewers feelings it has to be a great anime
i don't think it's that easy to create such a hate
(noting that hate is different from annoyance..which is quite easy to achieve)

I agree with you almost completely, but one could also argue that the director was being a tad bit nonchalant with treating his viewing audience. Going through all that trouble of instilling psychological fear by utilizing the horrific, traumatizing morality experience, only to then turn around and flaunt its source material [Visual Novel] with exemplary lines: "Hey, here's a smashing way to vent your perspectives on the matter. Play this and just TRY achieving one 'good' ending."

EDIT: Like most, my sympathy nomination is alloted for Kotonoha; take a stab at how I'd alter School Days.

i don't really see the need to change it ._. i know is weird, but some thing like this is more realistic then some other love story... the thing about this series is just the dating = =! there is not much development after 1st half is just sex sex sex and then die. thats the only part i think it needed to be work on.

When i first started watching the series i never would have guessed how the plot would develop and must say it was quite the surprise . I reckon the ending is what makes the anime unique and special (at least for me) so i would not change it
