By far this is the best game of all time. Nothing comes close to beating it. It is so popular and the origional game is worth over $100

Oh yeah? Name another RPG of the same caliber released in 97 for any console. Final Fantasy 7 also happens to have the best plot development in the entire series. The gameplay scheme of Final Fantasy 7 has been cloned over the years and overdone, not to mention the graphics are now outdated. No wonder people like you can't appreciate it.
Final Fantasy 10 has nothing on seven. Final Fantasy 9 is basically Final Fantasy 1,2 and 3 with better graphics (and the same piece of shit type of a poor excuse for a story) Final Fantasy 8 is a very close second to 7 due mostly to originality. Final Fantasy 10-2 is pitiful. Final Fantasy 11 is lineage 2, enough said. Final Fantasy 12 (my current favorite) is complete and utter STAR WARS.
That actually leaves Final Fantasy 7 at the top.
Continue this discussion in the original FF7 thread.
People like me can't appreciate? I played this game when it first came out and I didn't like it then either. The story bored me to death and the characters were extremely cliche. I didn't like the fighting system, and materia just had soooooooo many problems with it. Honestly, if they expect me to feel something for characters like Aeris *spolilers: she dies* then they should actually spend time making them dynamic instead of giving them one phase of personality. I beat it simply to please people who love the game so much and tell me I've never played it just because I don't like "TEH GREATEST GMAE OF ALL TIME LOLZ!" >_>.
Me, personally, I prefer the earlier FFs, or 8. Then again I don't like the series a whole lot. When it comes to RPGs the Tales Of...series is easily my favorite. And when it comes to stand-alone games "Skies of Arcadia:Legends" is easily one of the best RPGs, neigh one of the best games I've ever played.
I hope this is the original topic.

The story bored you to death and yet you like the tales series?
This is extreme bull. And I've yet to see another argument other than "I don't like it because I don't like it".
No other game at the time had a story with that kind of depth.
Nowadays it's just considered hip to be against critically acclaimed games, and you happen to fit in that group.

And that's your opinion. I thought FFX had a pretty bland story, and gameplay that, by the time it was released, was overdone.

Yes. Something wrong with that? The gameplay is a lot more fun for me. I prefer RPGs that play like Tales Of, and the storyline is usually more engaing and has less predictability to it. Admitedly it's not the greatest stories ever, but they're fun to play. And that's all that matters to me, considering video games don't usually have engaging stories. I do appreciate ones that do though.
Yes, of course. It's hip to not like anything other people do >_> How many times do I hear this grouping? Seriosuly it's the only argument I've ever seen used against people who don't like what everyone else does.
I suppose you could say it had "depth" at that time but the same could be far-fetchedly argued for any game at that time. Like OoT for example. I could go on and on about a whole bunch of symbolism that isn't there and somehow make some BS connection to 9/11 even though the game came out years prior and say this game is a masterpiece in its amazing ability to judge humanity and predict its outcomes. But I'm not going to. Why? Because that's just ridiculous. As is most of FF7's storyline. Several aspects of it just felt forced and there were only a few times I was even entertained by it. More specifically near the end than any other point in the game. Sure, it had a nice build-up and all, but lke I said I thought the game lacked characterization and simply felt like some sort of tedious retro rejected sci-fi flick. Sometimes that turns out good, but other times it just ends up being horrible. Like SCCTM for example. It's hilarious in how bad it is and that's why I love it. In other contexts however it doesn't work. Why? It's all about presentation.
This is just my opinion you know, and I know I'm in the minority when I say all of this.
One random note I want to make: I found this game in a bargain bin for 2 dollars a few days ago. Sure, it's worth 100 >_>.

As eloquently as you put it, this is really all YOUR opinion on the game. Anything wrong with that? No, not really, but if don't expect to flame the game and NOT get a retort. As for the game's worth, I'm not a crazy collector that would give 100 bucks for it.

Same thing with president Bush, people just say they hate him just because others hate him. It's funny when you ask why you hate Bush.
Sorry for going off topic there.

...
Except there's actual reasons for hating him.
I would post a fan-made music video using the song "Take A Bow" to really emphasize how horrible he is, but that would make this go off topic. Another topic is needed if you want to do that.

If I lived in the us, I'd be worried about him being the president. Hes incompetent, this has nothing to do with the opinion of the masses.
But lets not go there now.
@AdamLong: I agree, Sephiroth was never my favorite villain. Crisis Core fixes it though, adds good reasoning to his actions, character background etc.

My cousin has the first one. :D
I'm also missing III and IV... and the DS one... I lost tactics advance.. T.T

It shows how he was prior to the incident. It doesn't do much for his villainous character in FF7 but it certainly adds some depth. He had friends, he was good when it came down to it...he literally went insane with the revelation of his origins and how his friends were used as guinea pigs, etc.
I like Crisis Core because it shows Zack's story, and connects very well with the original game.

This is ALL arguable. But my experience from this game told me the following:
At the beginning, Zack was a second class soldier, and he was just below Angeal (his first class mentor) in terms of skill/power. It was like this for the better part of the first half.
Ultimately, the tier list is this (globally speaking, everyone in their prime)
Safer Sephiroth>Cloud (prime, not CC)>Base Sephiroth>Zack>Avatar Genesis>Angeal>Genesis
But at the BEGINNING of crisis core, Angeal, Sephiroth and Genesis aren't too far apart.
Technically, Sephiroth is always the strongest *first class soldier* because Cloud was never in Soldier.

Yeah, cloud didn't make it right?
Wait... but my friends were definatly not talking about sephiroth...

Only click if you can take spoilers from both ff7 and crisis core:
Cloud was just a shinra guard. He thought he was soldier because he was suffering from mako poisoning when he woke up from a mako induced coma, still groggy, and then suddenly realized his best friend just died. To top it off, Zack's last words were along the lines of "you will be my living legacy". Cloud assimilated Zack's life, including his affection for Aerith. It's a really fucked up way to live, poor cloud :(
There are only 3 first class soldiers before Zack becomes one:
Angeal, Genesis, and Sephiroth. Your friend is probably referring to Angeal, since he is the most prominent Soldier, and Zack's mentor. He isn't the strongest though, as much as I'd like him to be.
He is voiced by Kazuhiko Inoue (Kakashi!) ;)

I have to admit that it feels a bit forced sometimes but i have to disagree: it does have prety defined characters with deep stories and independent one from another, the difficult part is to "search" for this stories throghout the game(and that's what's fun).
The backgrounds I like are Vincent and Nanaki (Red XIII)
Personally i like FF VI more: More character, deeper stories, (spoiler)the world is destroyed, stories that mix with each other, etc.
FF VII is my second best (in the FF series).

Well, I agree with you on one thing: FF6 is the best Final Fantasy.
Everything else I disagree with; I thought too much time was spent basically doing nothing. The side stories provided some insight to the characters, but with the amount of time spent doing them I thought we would get a little extra out of it.

I like that time because i spent it leveling up, besides i like to search for the stories because it is what i always search for in videogames, for me a good story is reward enough (almost cried when Nanaki goes to see his father again)
