Debate: Lolita

There has been a debate about wither dressing in lolita clothing makes you have a "pedophile " mind or it's just for fun and looking cute. I was on yahoo in a conference with some trusted people and we talk about some of the things in anime and such. Well some people found lolita cosplaying or dressing as a lolita is sickening. While a few others thought it was cute as long as it is displayed in a appropriate matter. The whole meaning of " lolita" means seductive young girl. But for all we all know it could mean other things and other different languages. I just want to know what is your personal opinion on this debate. My own personal opinion is, if it's displayed [ such as dressing for cosplay or fun] appropriate matter then there is nothing wrong with it.

ummm if ur a girl dressing up in lolita clothing, then it should be alright, but if ur a guy and dressing up in lolita clothing, then it's definently gonna be a problem, lol.

Also dressing up in clothing doesn't make u a pedo, it's the thought of finding very young girls attractive in a sexual manaer which makes a pedo.

That's what I hate when people call people who like Lolicon *Drawn loli in sexual maners*, pedos....

Real thing and drawn are 2 different things... it's the perverts out there who do the real stuff that gives the nude loli art fans a bad name.....

Imo, as a clothing fashion, lolita has nothing wrong with it. I think it`s cool actually; but it carries on a bad connotation with it , which may be seen just looking the word lolita on Wikipedia; Lolita is know as a term that refers to "any attractive woman who has only recently reached the age of consent, or sometimes to refer to women who appear to be younger than the age of consent" (Yup, quoted from Wikipedia). So if u have no idea what`s anime or manga and u dont give a crap about asian stuff, What will u think if someone wears herself lolita-like? :sigh:

No no no Hphunter you took it the wrong way. I never said there was anything wrong with it. I was saying something about what happened in a conference I was in on yahoo. And what people were debating about. I have no problem with it and see nothing bad about it. I was just asking for everyone else's opinion about it. If I said there was something wrong with it.. I wouldn't have made this banner below the text. I actually find Gothic Lolita and fancy Victorian style dressing quite fascinating. I've always enjoyed the anime art and the realistic cosplay. I'm also learning how to design such dresses and bonnets.

I meant to say that the term lolita express more stuff than the Lolita fashion style wants it to be. Just that. It think it was just a bad choice of words for a style dressing, since the word Lolita DO connects to underage girls or almost-underage girls - just wikipedia Lolita to check it. Therefore, It`s natural that people that doesn`t understand about the Lolita-fashion style will think about the ... pornographic lolita. Too much pr0n, i guess.

Ahh see it's quite alright. No I'm actually going to school for fashion designing. So that I could become a clothing designer. But I like making Victorian style clothing and dresses, hoepfully once I get the hang of things. Then I can make nice clothing once I do that I'll show you first outfit! lol

There is nothing wrong with Lolita.

Lolitas are just cute girls so i don't think it's 'Sickening'.
Although lolicon is different matter.
Personally i think the ban on lolicon in America is bad even though i'm against lolicon, Rather have the pedos busy with Lolicon than real life no?

In short: Lolita are just cutely dressed girls, as long as they are appropiately dressed it's fine in my opinion

I like the clothes,they're so cute.I love the fashion as well.People who don't have any knowledge from manga/anime/cosplay tend to judg and critisise it like my sister.When I told her that I want to dress as gothic lolita once she looked at me with a weird look and then the comments followed.Most base their opinion on the novel Lolita,which also happens to be more known worldwide and people relate that word to the novel.
Lolicon people are others,when you get sexually attreacted by young girls you're a pedo.Lolicon means the same thing to me.
But it's different when you just find it cute and pretty.

There's nothing wrong with dressing up Lolita style. I like the style, I think it's very cute.
I like pretty clothes with lots of frilly things and cute details. (Well, to look at at least. Wearing it would be somewhat out of my league )

I bet very,very few people actual know where the term lolita/ lolita complex comes from? it's from a novel called [lolita] by Vladamir Nobakov I have a copy in .doc format if any one wants it just hit me up on Yahoo IM it's a great read.

but the cosplay lolita doesn't have anything in common with that character anymore. in cosplay and in some subcultures lolita is a fashion style and the term pertains mostly to clothing. the pedophile mind doesn't care about that (except for the fetishes that can occur), but care about age. so i find nothing sickening about the idea in general. and i have to wonder, those people who are disgusted by it, what do they think of when seeing a lolita on the streets? who's the real pervert? *sigh*
