Alright guys here goes. What's all the hype surrounding The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya? Who here enjoyed it? What's it like? That sort of thing. Thanks in advance.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is ok. Never been a huge fan but The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is ok.

It is entertaining as an anime but I think that the hype might be just because so many people like it and/or heard of it like Dragon Ball Z. It just depends on how good it is for you and if you think it is worth doing back flips for.
I personally liked it and its music but I don't think it is worth the amount people give it. But hey that is just me.

Well I dont know abought the "hype" but ever since I saw an episode at an anime convention I just had to see the rest. I found it to be funny, dramatic and just plain good (though a bit wierd). It may not be my favorite anime of all time but I do recomend it.

it is ok, some people get ultra need about certain animes, i just guess this is one of them.

It's one of those shows that if you've seen a lot of anime, you appreciate more and more. The humor is great parody of contemporary and classic anime archetypes and pop cultural references (although some are lost on Westerners sadly cuz it's a Japanese show). I'd recommend that if you are new to anime, and you think it's just "alright", try watching it again a few years from then and you might find it suddenly a lot more fresh and relevant than you remembered. =D
Case in point, if somebody who didn't know jack about American pop culture watched Family Guy, would they really get all the jokes? I don't see how when they lampoon everything from "The Facts of Life" to "Gilmore Girls".
So I'd argue that the more Japanese pop culture you know, and the more anime you've seen, the greater chance you'll "get" this little offbeat gem.

I have to agree it was over-hyped but still a pretty good anime. The character development and story was pretty creative and interesting so I'd suggest checking it out.

I liked it, as it's very funny/entertaining *I can't wait till a S2 get's released*
only real problem I idn't care for is the fact, the episode order is wacky...
If you decide to watch it, watch it in this order for a comprehenive/understanding chronological path, lol.
2, 3, 5, 10, 13, 14, 4, 7, 6, 8, 1, 12, 11, 9
