Drat! I though I had something there. :-/
[Edit] I found the cause, I think. This is a documented bug in Firefox. There is a quick find feature which can be activated by pressing the ' or / keys. I have checked out several recommended permanent fixes, none of which work for me. However, it seems that resizing the window works. That is, if your ' or / is turning on the find, just go to a different size window and the problem should go away. You can also open and close the Tools/Options menu in Firefox. It wouldn't hurt to let the Firefox people know that their bug is still not fixed, too.
