Too many awards?
I'm creating this thread because the amount of awards the user can archive has gone to a number for my opinion too great. I believe that there should be awards for the "important" stuff that actually improves the quality of Nihonomaru, and now I mean the awards you get for actually sharing files (such as anime, manga etc). I thought the awards was meant to be held high, and only the ones who actually put an effort into something could get them. But now the awards have somewhat lost their true value, because there are so many of them and the number is increasing. Some of them are just spam, an example is the Neko 猫 Mimi Award. I mean at least 90% of this forum can agree that cat ear girls are really cute, so wouldn't that mean we all could just be given the award as default? Other examples could also be the Yaoi Award, Yuri award and the Evil award. They have no use at all. When i came to Nihonomaru, members with around 4 awards had many because it required a big amount of sharing and effort, and those people gained my respect. Now we're talking about 9+ awards, and more than half of them can come from random unimportant stuff, but it's impossible to know unless you check up on the user. And therefore you simply start to ignore the awards.
So what i am trying to say is, get rid of the awards that serve no purpose. Some of you Nihonomaru users will probably say that i am wrong. Many will probably say so because you/the user will loose awards/loose the opportunity to get these awards, because these awards are easy to archive, and require no work, and are therefore easy showoff. |

Re: Too many awards?
i guess it depends a lot on what u expect an award to stand for...
some might see it as a way to increase the e-peen, especially in combination with a high postcount and considerable reputation. others merely use it to show certain personal preferences (yaoi, yuri, neko, whatever). for many it might even turn into some kind of popularity contest, but hopefully the latter group is just a minority. while i admit that most of the new awards don't really show any accomplishments i can't see whats wrong with them either. after all uploading content is not the only way to contribute in a forum, especially when u take into consideration that a huge amount of that content either comes in the form of links taken from somewhere else or remote uploads. nothing wrong with either of those, but lets face it, it doesn't take such a huge effort that users who do so deserve to be featured on some special wall of fame. the way i see it those new awards are a nice little gimmick for ppl who feel the need to "upgrade" their profile. of course they don't really mean anything, but they don't hurt anyone either... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: Too many awards?
Hmm . Let me restate my opinion .
I don't see a reason why the new awards should bother you . If you're worried that some people might get it without proving that they deserve it - you shouldn't . You yourself pointed out a few of the awards that you need to work hard for , and afterwards prove the work you've done to be able request that award - and there you have it . These are the awards that truly matter . These are the awards that are truly earned . So not only shouldn't the new awards bother you - quite the contrary - they make your hard earned awards become even more valuable and rare . You can "hold them " even higher now . After all , you can always check whether an award is just for show or truly deserved. ![]() ![]()

Re: Too many awards?
i guess the easier awards that members can get can make them feel like they can get awards and not just have to wait for long periods of time for the harder ones. as a lot of people usually give up on awards cause they are to hard to achieved but as stated before you should be proud of the hard earned awards that you have gotten. people who have gotten the harder awards are examplses that they can get them and the other members can try and achive them as well puts you guys as examples.

Re: Too many awards?
Well its only 4 awards that are "easy" to get.
The Yaoi/Yuri is about being noticed just like the helper award except they are requestable. The other four, well how else should you be able to get them? There just a bit of fun, so why complain and ruin their novelty??? Hence "user" award. Not all awards are a sign of accomplishment, but am not gonna bother to repeat what Lost had said. x Last edited by tiamat21; 07-03-2009 at 01:53 AM. |
