Hi there,
I'd like to point out specifically, that this forums (unfortunately) has a handful of wrong interpretations or just plain mistakes in spellings. Let me point out some I have found at a glance through. 1)At the "introduce yourself" section, there is a "NoobE guide". The term should be "newbie" and not with the word "noob". Newbie comes from the word "new",which is where new people go to. A noobie is someone who is bad at performing something, normally the term is used in online games.where a game player is a "noob" for not being able to control their character properly. some people take offence to the word noob so I'd like to point that out. :) 2)Also on the same section, the description for the section is " Come in and introduce yourself, don't be shy, you will sure receive a warm Ola :)" The back part should be rephrased to : " you will surely receive a warm welcome." Ola = hello and nobody receives a "warm hello" but a "warm welcome". :) 3)Under the "everything/nothing" section, anyone can plainly see why the description written as "This section won't be heavely moded!" is plain wrong. It should be written as "This section won't be heavily modded". 4)Other than that, there's also the smaller things in the desciptions like suddenly having a capital letter word in the middle of a sentence that is anything but a name, place or noun. For instance , under Maru's Lounge " Talk about anything and everything! Have fun with Off-topic posts in this category." Off-topic need not be capital lettered because it is a word,it does not describe something special. 5)I also do not think the use of "=3" is appropriate in descriptions. i mean, its either you use it in all of your descriptions or you dont. I know "=3" is a cute friendly gesture but I personally, think that there should be an "even-ness" in the descriptions. Why I choose to talk about this 1)I am not an english teacher trying to push his knowledge on to other people. 2)I am not one with too much free time to point out and attack other people's mistakes 3)I have been an active forummer for many years in many different forums and I know what could make this forums much better 4)This forums is unique and that is why I do not want to see it get heavily laden with typographical errors. 5)Other people may not mind it,but to me,having correct spellings is better than having wrong spellings. :) My suggesstions 1)Try to do a spell check on your articles with programs like microsoft word on your articles before posting them up online. 2)If that is too much of a hassle, convert to Firefox which has an in-built spell checker. It'll help you spell check everything that you type anywhere. 3)If even that its too much of a hassle, you could recruit someone with above average english comprehension to do the spell checking before hand. If it'll help,I volunteer myself that position. P:s//some people may come in and say, that i'm too picky and being a perfectionist. As I have said and will say again, " I just want this forums to be better and that is the way I think it can improve.By improving the errors i mentioned above". Cheers all, have a good day. |

Re: Forum has errors in spellings
Honestly. I think you wasted your time. None of these are errors but things that make our site different and special to other boards.
So lock thread lul? Btw Arika is way to busy to fix a few things that you call spelling errors. Thanks but no thanks.

Re: Forum has errors in spellings
I would have to say a couple things, first of all, My Mother WAS an English Professor, and I'm rather accomplished regarding English myself.... However, English is my native tongue which is actually not the case with many of our members...
The Admins that actually put this site up and wrote those "errors" are actually Bulgarian natives, and (lulz) quite frankly, the "english" used on this forum is horrible.... contrarily, if I had to type in Japanese, Vietnamese, or Belgian / Russian / Chinese / or French, I'm afraid my contributions would be poor indeed. I'm actually grateful that most of these people put forth the extra effort to post in a language that I can actually understand since I'm the simple one, and am only fluent in one.... most of these kids actually can get their point across in 6 or more languages, and they are a third my age in many cases... If I was to have written the "scripts" for this forum, it WOULD be in "better" english.... as it is, I'm glad that they've sunk to my level to include me... I see that you've actually posted two other posts, I'm looking forward to reading them too, and see if they have been as helpful as these two have been... Welcome to Nihonomaru... Maniakidd, enjoy yourself, and please follow the rules. If you should ever have any questions, please feel free to PM me, and I will respond accordingly. -peacock- Nihonomaru SuperModerator p.s. *edit* I locked this thread to prevent flaming Last edited by Arika : 04-11-2008 at 06:47 AM. |
