I've been discussing this with Arika, but I've realized lately that the gallery has now grown to the size now where it would be nice if it were a) organized properly and b) actually searchable.

Many pictures aren't categorized properly (most of the 'ecchi renders' aren't renders at all and some of them aren't even ecchi, for example) and the VAST majority of them aren't tagged in a way that would make it easy to find what you're looking for which means that right now the gallery's okay if you want to peruse and look through galleries but it could be SO much better.

If the whole gallery were tagged with series/character/whatever the gallery would become so much more useful as you'd be able to find relevant images with a quick search instead of having to browse through our thousands of images and hope you find what you're looking for.

Therefore we'd like to know if there is anyone interested in modding the gallery - your duties would be going through it, sorting the photos into the correct subgallery and tagging them with as much information as possible and generally administering the gallery. Here's an example:

As you can see it's been tagged with the series (Rozen Maiden) the character (Sougin Tou) and relevant information about what's in it (gothic lolita angel wings) so now if anyone searches for any of those terms, this image will show up.

In order to apply you must be an active, established member with enough time and knowledge of a wide variety of series to be able to do this. Benefits of becoming a Mod include a 150x150px avatar, 150-message pm box and a nice little tag under your name:

I'd like to be gallery mod. I enjoy looking at art, I'm good with categorization, and I have the time. I have a solid concept & knowledge of the various genres. I'm already an active member and have been since I joined 3 months ago.

Editing the gallery pictures is a lot of work! like adding tags, rename the pictures instead of 984365463121 a lot of pictures have names like these. So it is a lot of work, make sure you have time for this.

Could do that, but I tested with the search engine and it doesn't actually make a difference either way. The main thing is just to tag as many as possible as accurately as possible.

In addition to having the mod I'd want it to be mandatory for image uploaders to give any new pics they put up at least basic chacter/series tags (or if they don't know those, enough other tags to make up for it). That should alleviate a lot of pressure on the mod.

I think that tve, daniel (if he's back around - it sounds like he might be active again fairly soon) or persocom-san would be the best for the gallery mod position - tve and dan two of he biggest image uploaders, and persocom is the only one who's been reliably tagging his own images as he goes.

Thanks for the compliment Toad, I did realize there was a lot of untagged images and I've been trying my best to keep it that way when I upload, sometimes it's hard to do with images I'm not sure of the origin of. I thought about asking to be a mod for the gallery but I'm not sure I'm qualified knowledge-wise (although I'd be willing to give it a shot and if all else fails google is FTW). I definitely have the spare time though, and if I would be elected to be a gallery mod I'd do my best. One thing I did realize is that once you post images to a gallery you can't move them into a folder correct? When I started out posting images I didn't think to make special folders for the characters and series I have tons of pictures for, and if that's possible as a mod that's great, as things are pretty messy and even I made mistakes uploading my own pictures. Tagging definitely needs to be done more, I searched for some very popular things in the search function of the gallery and nothing even came up. Anyways, let me know if you want me to be a gallery mod, if not I'll just keep working hard to make sure I tag my images the best I can from now on as I have been ^^

In light of this, at the very least I'm going back through some of my images now to add more tags to them and change long file names wherever possible.
