I don't know either- it looked like an the diagram of an atom's path in his eyes. But my question is whether his bro gave Sasuke the power to use Amertarasu at will, or only to use it one time when he woke up?

well recently you will find that yes Itachi left something for Sasuke but it was a sort of failsafe every time his sharingan sees madara's amateratsu will be launched against madara as for the eye it is a new for of magenkyou apparently born from the pain and regret Sasuke experienced finding the truth behind Itachi actions after killing him

Itachi was definitely one of the most favorite characters in Naruto probably cause of his attitude. I doubt Sasuke could ever have killed him if it wasn't for his disease. Also Sasuke's mangekyou doesn't look nearly as cool as Itachi's. And I think Itachi's dead body being eaten (maybe) by the guy with dual personality was way too much. At least give hima dignifying death, the guy gave up everything to ensure that a war didn't start up.
