Re: Guys and Shoujo is it wrong?

It's all a matter of taste I think.

There's nothing wrong with guys reading Shoujo manga. It all depends on what you like reading. I'm a sucker for romance so it didnt take too long for me to start reading shoujo. I kinda ran out of Shounen/Seinen romance mangas to read (there aren't nearly enough of them IMO), so I eventually drifted toward shoujo.

Anyone who says its wrong is just close-minded. We live in an era that promotes gender equality, so why use gender as an excuse like that?

Like I said, all a matter of taste. If you're interested... TRY IT! Who knows, ya might enjoy it.

Re: Guys and Shoujo is it wrong?

i don't think gender should matter, as long as you like reading it, like i read both shoujo as well as shounen, as long as the story is good.

Re: Guys and Shoujo is it wrong?

I have enough confidence in my masculanity to read Shoujo manga! :D

Really I've never really understood why some people would actually be bothered with such things. Are there really people out there who think that guys who read shoujo manga are gay? Does that make girls who read shounen manga like naruto lesbian?

I for one am not bothered wether something is aimed at a certain gender or even age. If a magical girl manga for 12 year old girls can entertain me I'll read it, and I won't bother to question myself on my tastes.

If it ain't Dutch it ain't much.

Re: Guys and Shoujo is it wrong?

lol dw i asked this question at first too, but no1 cares and if they do just beat them up or get a hot gf and there's nothing they can say right? not that i'm condoning violence, but i'm sure u can do the hot gf one since a lot of girls complain about the lack in sensitive, chivalrous, knight-in-shining-armour guys in the modern world. and i got bored of Fruits Basket in the second volume. Friends all said it got a lot better after but i can't bring myself to start it again. Chobits was good, but can't find volumes 7/8 even in bookstores. all in all i think its not a matta of the manga being shoujo or shounen but more of the actual genre say romance (main reason i read) or violence or watever right?

Hot lady-friends are the best answer to almost anything people have to say against you as a guy.

Re: Guys and Shoujo is it wrong?

The thing is you have to be careful of the "Jack Thompsons" of the manga world. If you don't know who Jack Thompson is. He is this whack job who believes that violent video games will make people violent. Really, the same thing applies here, people use stereotypes to justify illogical thinking. Violent videogames make you violent, shoujo manga means you're gay (for guys), shounen mangas for girls aren't proper etc. Honestly, you can't let people like this get you down. Don't let them tell you what you can and can't read especially if you can see that their reasoning is due to really illogical reasoning and really, discriminating logic. Because, shoujo mangas or not, what right does anyone have to make anyone feel bad regarding their sexuality regardless of what your sexuality...

Though, I do understand that as a girl I cannot quite comprehend the hardship a guy goes through in liking shoujo mangas. I know it's wicked easy to spout the advice I gave you but as a guy you go through more hell if you veer away from what is considered "boy" stuff... and if you like things that don't fall into that, you guys really do go through hell. In the end, if you are comfortable with yourself (don't sweat the gay thing for one) then the heck with other people..

I just compensate for my enjoyment of anime/manga(shoujo or otherwise) by being awesome in pretty much every other way I can.
Aside from that, it's really not that hard to sell yourself to a girl as being a nice guy (once you're out of high school, at least) and you CAN learn a lot about how to act around ladies from the shoujo stuff.

Are there really people out there that think that being gay means you can't be masculine? Why yes, there are close minded people.
