Moby Games praised the game's amazing graphics, placing it in the same category as games such as Planescape Torment, and System Shock 2. They praised the company's artistic development of the game as "it shouldn’t be a surprise that it would be a daring Japanese company that releases smut which challenges your pre-set notions of the world." However, they also stated that "A-Ga is just horrific, violent porn." They compared the scenarios during the game as synonymous as the horrible "atrocities Japanese soldiers committed in World War II [and] at the Rape of Nanjing."  inkō Shōjo 2 (人工少女 2, Jinkō Shōjo 2? lit. "Artificial Girl 2") is a 3D erotic life simulation game developed by Illusion for the PC. The player assumes the role of a young male on an island, populated with a number of idyllic locations typical to the genre (such as the beach, a hot spring, a school, a lab/office, a train car, and a castle's church and dungeon.) Accompanying the player is a cute girl, who provides a number of different social and increasingly erotic actions for the player. At the beginning of the game, the player may customize the girl's different attributes, such as her hair color, hair style, breast size, skin color, and blood type (this has the added function of selecting her personality, based on the popular Japanese pseudoscience). Unless third-party modifications are used, the girl will still more or less look the same underneath the hair and minor modifications, a problem foreseen by most gamers to plague many other games of this genre that attempt this type of customization. This (along with other concerns, see below) has led to a lot of the aforementioned "modding" to this game, both inside and outside of Japan. The object of Jinkō Shōjo 2 is to figure out how to satisfy the girl, based on conversation and reactions to chosen actions. If the player succeeds in making her happy, the game rewards the player (such as with new outfits for her to wear). While not a true dating sim (as they typically have more than one girl to choose from, among other things), the mechanics of the social and erotic interactions borrow heavily from such games. However, other than the setup, the game contains no real plot or backstory. Due to the non-linear nature of the game and the few goals (other than figuring out what the girl likes and how to successfully perform various actions with her) the game is felt by some gamers to be rather pointless and lacking in depth. Still, other gamers find value in the many modifications (as mentioned previously) and fansites associated with the game. Unlike other games and products developed by Illusion, Jinkō Shōjo 2 contains no violence, rape, or humiliation overtones. Illusion's policy states that the game is not intended to be sold or used outside of Japan, and official support is only provided in Japanese and for users in Japan. The blue program (JS_3 Make) is to create a female character or clothing. The orange program (JS_3 Play) is used to load the female and play the game. The player must start using the Make file to create a female character before he can play. Make mode In the main tab the player is able to choose what type of clothing the character wears at a specific time of day. The first button at the bottom of the menu in the left hand corner lets you create characters, the second button to the right lets you create clothing. Characters and clothes that are created will be displayed on the list of Characters and the List of clothing. Below the list there are 8 text boxes where the player can add clothing for the female to wear during the day, an alternative day clothing, a night clothing, a sleep attire, a bath attire, a cute attire, an sexy attire, and an erotic attire. The time the player wears which clothing is determined by the gameplay. If the player chooses not to add in clothes, his character will appear nude by default in gameplay.

In the make mode the player has a tab in which he can create female characters and customize some of their physical attributes and their personalities and voice. The save button is on the first tab below the text box on the right. The buttons below it are to control the camera. To return to the main menu click on the large button on the left corner. There are also eight pre-made figures for the game. The second tab allows the player to modify skin tones, pubic hair color and density, and sun tans. The third tab allows that player to adjust breast characteristic, waste size, nipple and areola characteristics. The fourth tab allow adjustment of eye shape & size and pupil size and color. The fifth tab allows adjustment of eye makeup, mole, and eye lashes. The sixth tab allows modification of eyebrow colors, shapes and nose adjustments. The seventh tab modifies the mouth, jaw, chin, modifications, and lip color. The eighth tab controls the hair style and colors. The ninth tab controls the females voice, personality, birth date, and name. The last tab controls the female characters AI characteristics. There is another tab for customizing clothing and under garments. The player can change clothing textures by choosing from the .tga and .bmp files in the spaces above the bar that allows the player to choose colors. Below the colors is four option buttons in which the player can change the clothing material's gloss and reflection. The keys in creating clothing is similar to the ones for creating the female character. The first tab allows the player to modify under garments. The second tab modifies clothing, sleeves, and bottom attire. Third tab modifies gloves, socks, and shoes. The fourth tab modifies head gear and head attire. The last tab modifies bows, backpacks, tails, and neck attire. Play Mode In the play mode the player starts in a house and is limited to moving around the neighborhood. The player gets to interact with up to five female characters which were created with the Make file. The game is open ended and the player moves around and develop relationships with the characters created. The female characters all have different personalities depending on how they were created and also sexual position which is dependent on the type of AI characteristics. There are also day night transitions in the game and the female characters can interact with objects in the environment. The player is limited to actions such as going through doors, having sex with the female characters, calling the characters, sleeping, and sitting down. The player can save his progress by choosing the top option when sleeping on the bed. Condition and location status display There is a bar on the lower left hand corner which tells where the females are and their relations to the player. The counter tells the room the female character is in and the mood status. The default color is blue but the counter can change to green, yellow and red. Blue indicates that the female shows no interest in the player. For new characters with a blue display the player is able to only hug and eventually kiss her. But for characters who were green and turned blue the player is able to have sex with her while standing. A green display allows the player to kiss the female longer and have sex with her easier. The green display also causes the female not to run out of the room when shocked as easily. The red icon indicates that the girl loves the player and the player can enter the sex mode easily. The female will also dress in cute, erotic, and sexy outfits. She also will not be shocked if the player enters the bathroom while she is bathing. In this state, girls with any type of personality trait will enter into a specific sex-mode. The counter can change if the player Hugging & Kissing the female, Eating with her, Hold her hand and enter different locations, sleeping in the same bed, providing sexual satisfaction to her, and sitting with her relaxed (left click after sitting and the male's head will lean back, works on specific static items. It is done correctly if she puts her hand on the player) The yellow color indicates that the girl is jealous of the players relationship with another female character. Sex mode There are four ways to enter sex mode: approaching the female on the bed, from the front while standing, sitting on the floor, and from the back while standing. The conditions for the approaches are dependent on her mood status toward the player. To take the female character's clothing off, just left-click when the Hand icon is visible. To exit sex mode, when the Mushroom icon is visible, left click and drag the mouse downwards.
