Remedy's newest offering relies on a different setting. Max Payne draws inspiration from the hard-boiled detective novelist Dashiell Hammett, Hong Kong film director John Woo, and the Wachowski brothers of The Matrix fame. The main character, Max Payne, is a mixture of Sam Spade and action star Chow Yun Fat, with elements of Keanu Reeves' character Neo (all "whoas" aside). Payne's no-nonsense attitude and actions drive the gameplay, but unlike the one-dimensional Duke Nukem, Payne has an interesting and storied past that even comes back to haunt him. This extra human element behind the violence moves Max Payne a step beyond typical action games, offering players more than just another title with a crosshair and weapons. Taking a cue from The Matrix, Max Payne employs the stylized camera movement known as "Bullet-Time" where all action is slowed down to a point that you can actually see bullets whizzing through the air. This mode is not just for artistic license; players can trigger Bullet-Time to their advantage to perform incredible stunts and feats of agility, all while aiming and turning in real time to take down an uneven proportion of enemies.
Note: I've included the patch to upgrade the version to v1.05 so you can use the NO CD Patch I included ad well. Be sure to read the ReadMe.txt file.
