the "japanese to english" change is completely hilarious when it comes to anime, cuz when u see most dubbed series, they try to use the same emotion (especially girls) as in the japanese... and also using almost a direct translation which gives some overexerted dialogue...

personally i think the only 2 anime series whose' dubs were really good were FLCL and Inuyasha...

ive watched Haruhi Suzumiya and Shuffle dubs, and (i think cuz of the high amount of chicks) they sound so unnatural and just horrible...

couldn't agree more - tho baccano! in english doesn't sound too bad, well just in my opinion...kinda suits the set up of the show, just hated the little kid who I thought sounded cool until I heard him sreaming like a girl in a tutu <sigh>.

I can't agree more with you, the Japanese culture and emotions really don't mix well with English, thus the dubs sound overexaggerated.

true, true... but there ARE animes (a VERY VERY VERY small percentage) that are really good as dubs... e.g. Furi Kuri... AWESOME dub...

Some anime movies gets a pretty nice english dubbing like those from studio ghibli ~ so there's a small glint of hope

Well as said by above members it depends on the anime , i mean i can't imagine Dragonball Z in japanese , Goku sounds like a chick , now alot might be like WTF MAN! ,

Reason i am saying this i watched the whole Dragonball Z in english when it was on TV here so yeah so i saw some of the jap parts of Dragonball GT and it was horrible i couldn't stop laughing at their girlish vocies but then again its just me , im not here to cause flame wars =X.

But some dubs are so horrible you can't watch them , might aswell mute the sound and sub it yourself =D

Some Japanese puns became worthless when dubbed into English...

So Imagine it... Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei being dubbed in english..??

Not that i don't like it but i think it will be like that if so.

But I did watch a lot of anime on German TV, with German dubs, when I was younger, so now anime like Digimon, Pokemon. Detective Conan (Case Closed) or DBZ sound weird to me if they're not in German. XD

I need DBZ in japanese. The only voice I like during early DBZ dubbing was piccolo. Anyway, people tend to skip over Cowboy Bebop for best dub jobs, but I loved the voices used. Also, Ghost in the Shell (1st movie) had good english actors as well.
