While there's a number of great anime that've been released since CG inception its hard to beat the older stuff. To narrow it down to one I'd probably have to go with Nausicaa, though also love other series like KOR, Dirty Pair TV, or Lupin III (movies and TV).

Quite the collection of classic anime there, seen all or in part all of em except for Bosco Adventure and Spaceship Sagittarius. Though its older, Nadia seems to be a bit out of place with all the others; doesn't have quite the same old classic feel like reading an antique book does. Recently I re-watched the original Astro Boy and was constantly amused at what people's perception of what the future would be some 50 years ago.
One underlying idea that I never could understand the fixation on is the use of steam power. So many old/classic animes build everything around steam power (even if its ridiculous like have a steam powered can opener). Earlier in the 30's and 40's when studio's like Disney or Warner Brothers were doing movies/tv series they never had the same fixation/fascination with steam power like the Japanese seem to have. |

Re: Favorite classic anime?
I'm on my third complete run through of Ranma 1/2 in my life. It still hasn't gotten old for me. Don't think it will.
