Sorry for the double post but I just couldn’t resist being a smart-ass and explaining:
Basically the white parts burn into your eyes and you can see a afterimage for some time. The same thing happens when you stare at any light source (light bulb, neon, PC, even the sun). Try reading white text on a black background, you should see lines for quite a while.
