Help with Problems and Solutions related to download and corrupted files
Well, some users might question themselves about "how do i play this damn file i downloaded?", because probably their player is giving them an error when they try to run the file. Oh well, if you're having any problems running any of the files we host here, (anime, manga, etc), please read this guide carefully. Ja ne!
Winrar 3.60 TugzipIt's completely free and can do ZIP, RAR and other popular compressing methods. 7-Zip free program to unzip files, u'll find all info and download link on that page (Ofently used to extract the Hentai Games or movies with Jap passwords.) Winrar for all Unrarxfor Mac - free
Once installed, the file can be played in Windows Media Player (WMP).(also recommended by fieryeagle and Sunfizz98)
Alternatively, you can install the K-Lite Mega Codec which contains both CCCP and RealAlternative components. But not recommended, size is bloated because it contains extra codecs and tools which probably will never be used.
I don't like/use/whatever Windows Media Player. Any alternatives? Media Player Classic (included in the CCCP pack) recommended! Contains more advanced options, and is much more costumisable than WMP. Can take snapshots. Zoomplayer (included in the CCCP pack) Is said to automatically download the codec it needs. CCCP already contains all the necessary ones though. VLC media playertotally recommended! VLC comes with its own set of codecs, there is no need to download separate codec packs.
Small tutorial For VLC Player:
Quote:
Download VLC Player:
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ Simply double-click the downloaded installation package and follow the on-screen instruction to get the software installed and launch it after installation.
Quote:
Simply go to the File menu and choose Open File from there.
Now, click the Browse button next to the first white line at the top of the window with title "Open.." and navigate through your harddrive for the video you wish to watch and select it.
After you have selected the video, click OK and VLC will start playing the video you chose.
VLC should work for approximately 95 percent of the videos from the Internet, specially if they are in .avi format. Obviously there are occassions when you find a video that has been compressed using a codec that is not included within VLC and in those cases, you need to try something else.
Note: To make it even easier, you can just drag the file to the VLC Player and it will play automatically lol
However it cant play RealMedia, and playing styled softsubs is problematic in VLC.
RealPlayer
The original player for playing RealMedia files.
--Not recommended. See Wikipedia and the RealAlternative download page for details.
Any other alternatives than the one mentioned?
There are many other players out there, feel free to find one that suits your preferences. However be forewarned that some free players are packed with malware. Do research before installing.
My computer is not running on Windows. Any help?
VLC is cross-platform, try that one first.
If it does not work, try MPlayer builds. On the page, find the build for your corresponding OS.
1. Corrupted Files
1. The best solution is to download it again and make sure you download it 100% complete.
If the download automatically stops, then it means there's something wrong with the host which is prolly full/busy/undergoing maintenance. Try again later or ask a mirror in the Wish Cemetery section.
2. Repairing a Corrupt File is commonly used for recovering data files which from a Corrupted Zip/Rar but it cannot recover 100% of the data compressed in the Zip/Rar File so Solution #1 is the choice. Unless you reeeallly want to just get at least a portion of the archived file that could be recovered.
Repairing:
Open your WinRAR and browse to the folder of the corrupted fil.
Highlight the file and click Repair Button
or go to tools --> repair archive
Choose either "Treat the corrupt archive as RAR/ZIP" and then the files start extracting.
The repaired Zip/Rar file will be extracted to the same folder as the repaired archive so check the folder and extract it to get the data that was recovered.
2. Merging Files (Badongo)
If you don't already know, Badongo splits files into 100 mb pieces. The normal procedure to merge them would be:
Download all the file pieces ([filename].aa, [filename].ab, and so on)
Download the reference file ([filename].badongo)
Download and install the merger application, downloadable from the same page
Run the the merger application, and use it to merge the files.
Next, rename your files so they can be joined with HJsplit. File.aa becomes File.001, File.ab becomes File.002, and so on. You don't need the .badongo reference file, so it can be deleted.
Run HJsplit, select Join, and browse for File.001. The program will combine your archive.
Re: Help with Problems and Solutions related to download and corrupted files
If you have files splitted into: Filename.001, Filename.002, and so on. You don't need HJSplit/Joiner. Instead use 7-Zip as shown above.
Right-Click on the first part (Filename.001), go to 7-Zip in content-menu, choose as option either Extract Here or Extract Files to your specified folder.
Note: If you have more than 1 files splitted, select the Filenames.001 parts and do the same process as above to extract all in-one-shot.

VLC Media Player
Quote:
It's a very robust and versatile open source (free) cross platform (windows, mac, linux...) media player which has the capability to show subtitles. One problem is that all the codecs are self-contained if a new codec is used on the video file, you wont be able to view it until VLC Player is updated. A second problem is that VLC Player will not play Real Media files (possible solution).
Re: Help with Problems and Solutions related to download and corrupted files
HJSplit is a self contained program. That means there is no installation required. Just Download the latest version for your OS (Windows / Mac / Linux). Save to anywhere you desire and remember where it is saved.
To join a split file.
First start the hjsplit 2.3.exe program.
Click join and in the new window, click input file.
Spoiler!
Open up the folder where the split video files were downloaded to. The program will only show the .001 file.
Select the file and it will now show in the file name box.
Now select open.
Spoiler!
HJSplit will now start joining the file and you'll see a status bar.
Spoiler!
When the joining is complete a new window will indicate completion.
Spoiler!
Close and exit HJSplit and watch the video.
If you so desire, you can link the .001 file to automatically start up HJSplit when you left click the split file.
Right click the .001 file and select "open with"
In the drop-down menu click "choose program"
Check the "always use select program" box
Browse for the HJSplit program and select "open"
Note: Ensure that you have ALL parts of the video in the same folder and that the names (minus the split file extension; .001 .002 .003 .004 .005......) are identical. As well, ensure that the downloaded file is complete.

Megaupload Explained
Megaupload, like YouSendIt, is a website which allows you to upload any of your files to their server for free. Many people use it to share files because it is quite convenient to use and does not requite a lot of computer knowledge.
Megaupload allows each file up to 250MB to be uploaded to their server. The files stays on their server as long as people come and download. However, if nobody comes and download the files after 30 days, the files will be deleted.
One disadvantage of Megaupload is that it tends to take a longer time to upload and download. However, there are some ways to increase the upload and download speed by a bit, at least. We shall find out how later.
How to Upload to Megaupload
1. Go to the Megaupload site. You will see the screen like this.
Quote:
2. Click 'Browse' as shown in the circle above to choose the file which you want to upload. The pop up screen as shown below will appear.
Quote:
Simply select the file you wish to upload and then click 'Open'.
3. After selecting the file, remember to fill in the file description as well as checking 'I accept the terms' beside the file description. If you don't, Megaupload will not let you proceed to uploading. Filling up your e-mail and recipient's e-mail is optional. Then, click 'Send'. (Ignore 'Multiple recipients', 'Link password' and 'HTTP / FTP file fetching' as these are only for Megaupload Premium users.)
Quote:
4. Now, what you can do is wait for the file to be uploaded. It will show the estimated time left, elapsed time and the transfer rate. The progress bar also shows you how much of the file is uploaded and you can roughly estimate when it will finish uploading. The uploading will depend on your connection speed and the size of the file.
Quote:
5. When the file is done uploading, you will see a confirmation screen with a URL that will read as "http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XXXXXXXX" where the XXXXXXXX are some random numbers and letters. Copy the URL (Either Right Click and select 'Copy Shortcut (IE)/Copy Link Location (FireFox) or highlight and press Ctrl+C) and paste it in your post and share files with others.

Tricks for Megaupload
Uploading albums or any other big files
Uploading files to Megaupload tends to take quite slow, especially when you are uploading big files, when the uploading doesn't seem to start even after waiting for a few minutes or so. When you want the files to be uploaded faster, you might want to split up the files with WinRAR (Click here for the WinRAR guide), for example, into parts of 10MB each, and upload the parts seperately. It might be more troublesome but if you want to finish uploading quickly, you might want to choose this option. It will also be more troublesone for other people to download, when they have to download multiple files and combine them.
As for uploading an album, upload the tracks seperately, one by one.
Speeding up downloads
Downloading from Megaupload also tend to be quite slow, especially when you are downloading big files. You might want to use downloading devices like Net Transport, Flashget, or even YSIGet to speed up the downloading process. For FireFox users, you might want to download an add-on extension called Flashgot and use it with the downloading devices. These will at least help to speed up the download, maybe a bit, I'm not so sure.
You may want to check out the downloading devices from websites such as www.download.com.
FAQ
Q: What kinds of files can I send through Megaupload? A: You can send ANY type of file, of sizes up to 250MB. You cannot upload folders or directories however. You would need to use WinRAR to compress them into one rar file.
Q: Who can use Megaupload? A: Anyone. Megaupload is a FREE service.
Q: What other alternatives are there to Megaupload for sharing files? A: Right now at our forums we use Megaupload and YouSendIt as temporary file uploads, ie to fulfill file requests or for extremely large files (over 100MB etc). For most everything else we use Yahoo Briefcases or any other sites that will store files permenantly. As for YouSendIt, it works in the exact same way as Megaupload. However, it deletes the files after 7 days or 25 downloads, whichever comes faster. In other words, the downloads die out very fast. The good thing about YSI is that is has fast download speed, unlike Megaupload.
Q: How long should it take to upload? I've been uploading forever and it is still not done! A: How long it takes depends on your connection speed and the file size. Uploading to Megaupload tends to be quite slow as compared to YSI and sometimes, it doesn't seem to even start uploading your file after a few minutes, especially big files of more than 50MB. But I still see people who managed to upload big files as I have seen in the forum. So what you have to do is to wait patiently. Another possibilty is that you are simply expecting your computer to be faster than it really is. So just be patient. If you really want it to be faster, you might want to split up your files and upload them seperately. (Refer to Tricks for Megaupload)
Q: Why does the download takes so slow? A: As I've said earlier, it tends to be quite slow to use Megaupload to download (and upload) your files. I think it is because Megaupload allows files to stay on their server as long as people go to download. So, with many files staying on their server, it will make the download quite slow. One way to speed up the download is to use downloading devices. (Refer to Tricks for Megaupload)
