alright, just for clarification, what exactly are we debating about? money is such a general topic... perhaps if we narrowed it down to a specific statement, like, "they say money is the root of all evil, but i believe it is greed, not money. state your opinions" and such.

well greed isn't necessarily caused by money, more like money is caused by greed. because if we didn't have greed, then we wouldn't have money, whereas if we didn't have money, we'd still have greed because we'd want something else as compensation for whatever we gave up (i.e. a sale of an item, etc)

I narrowed the topic... Money : Means or need(s)? To put it simply, do you (and others) need money to get something else or do you (others) make money for the sake of having more wealth.... why do you think so...

yes, I agree with you Foralis. Greed is a human trait that all of us have, past, present, and future we will have greed. If we didn't have the dollar bill, yen, euro, and the rest, then we would be envious of other things like our neighbor who has two more sheep (or something along those lines) than we do and with nicer wool.

I, being an old-fashioned asian, was raised on the ideal of getting only what you need, and whatever excess you had, stow it somewhere to keep for a rainy day. so naturally, i only want money for what i need. of course, the occasional indulgence never hurts, but there is a line to be crossed with that.

my philosophy is as simple as that. i see people with their fancy iPod Touches and their bajillion inch plasma tv's, and their tuned-up honda civic stick-shift that goes 0 to 60 in so few seconds, and i honestly think: what's the point? 16 gigabyte ipod touch? what are the chances that you'll listen to that many songs straight off? and if you truly liked some songs, i dont think you'd mind listening to them a few times over. plasma tv's? please. i'm happy with my 25 inch curved screen, and my antenna for reception. tuned-up cars? who needs 'em? why spend money on upgrades only to spend even more money on tickets and driving school?

as for me, i honestly don't care about what people think about my 4 gigabyte NON COLOR light blue ipod mini. it seems feminine? who cares? it plays the songs i put on it to play, and it's got solitaire on it ;D

if i needed high quality television to make my life better, i'd just look around me. there is no quality better than real life.

who cares if you've got the tuned out car to drive to school? everyone goes at the same speed when we're at a stoplight. and hell, i'm happy riding my bike to high school.

of course, like i said, the occasional indulgence is nice. after all, jealousy is natural, so long as we know where to draw the line.

if i want a pair of shocks on my bike, so be it. as long as i'm not wasting my money, i'm fine. i mean, everyone has some wants here and there, we're not the Dalai Lama.

so yea. as you can tell, my philosophy is quite utilitarian.
