Think of something you would feel comfortable with and I'll make it our next topic, if it's good enough. ;)

Lemnear about your last post i completely agree.I was thinking about this when i read Ovids, The Metamorphosis. He chronicles everything from the organizing of Chaos on to his time and i was thinking about History as i read it.Indeed what we see in mainstream history books or what is taught to us in school tends to be one sided. For example if we are to read about World War 2 then we see it from the point of view of the Allied Forces.History and Time are not one sided, they are percieved differently by everyone involved in a ''historical moment'' or at a crossroad. Those who live History dont even know they are making it but there are times that they say they live in a ''historical moment'' but its not until later on that it is defined as such. But indeed to create a comprehensive history book would be a trully arduous task.It is much easier to look at the actors in the drama of History and not at the spectators who were indirectly involved in it, even though we know for certain that they too played their role...
I keep meaning to read that book (Ovid's), its been sitting on my bookshelf for years and always get distracted when I'm at the point to start reading it. The one aspect of Zinn's book that makes it truly unique is that it presents both sides of the coin. In one portion you'll be reading letters and notes from General Sherman as he marched to the sea destroying everything in his wake; then you'll read letters and articles from the victims that survived and had to live in what was left over.

If there's anything to be praised about the mass media, is that in the last ten years or so they've become much more receptive to documenting and presenting the 'other' point of view; whether it be the victims, loosers, or criminals. There was a lot of very dark and gruesome stuff done during WWII, no one will dispute that on any level. Though recently I've started to see documentaries/programs from the Nazi's point of view and some of the positive things they contributed; albeit the manner in which some of that information was gained was abomindable. Some of Megelev's (sick and twisted, cruel and inhuman as it was) research was later used extensively in NASA's Apollo program, and much of his eugenics research is used in bioinformatics today.

In NO way do I think the means to get said information was acceptable, I do find it interesting that we as a society have matured enough to be able to handle it, and be able to see the other side of the coin as seen through the eyes of the other party, beit gruesome as it may be.

Indeed we have matured greatly as a society, and i find it necessary to do so.In our time and age we live in a world which is open like never before and this promotes tolerance amongst us, which paves the way for a society ripe with understanding.Ill check out Zinn's book,it sounds interesting and i would like to know more about that crucial time in History.

Reading it the first time was somewhat confusing for me (didn't read it for a class or such) so was constantly flipping back and forth with the conversation going so far back I couldn't remember the original discussion. Second time went much quicker, almost like reading a fiction book for pleasure.
