Re: {Philosophers' Corner}

DDv, I accept your invitation, and thank you for inviting me under exclusive consideration. I would like to discuss lots of things, and am offended by very few. Oh, and I noticed you mentioned that we're not here to change the world. Well you might not be, but I will try to change this world to my dying day, which will hopefully not be too soon, but I don't mind either way.

Speaking of which, have you considered the topic of Death? It may be a little broad of a topic to discuss all at once so I'll try using a few limiting questions: What do you think will happen when you die? Will you sleep eternally or will you just wake to your next existence, be it maggot or human again, since you can only experience life and dying, but never death? Is death wrong, or is life wrong? Are you afraid of dying, or death, and of course, why? Are you willing to sacrifice your life for someone or something else, including cats? Why do you live?

Another topic: A.I. Is it life to you? Can you ever really share love (no, not sex, LOVE) with a robot? If you were to try to completely make yourself a robot (as I intend to try to) will it really be you? Will anyone other than you know if your original, true self was erased and only this perfect copy remains? (The truth of the matter is you'll never know, even if you try ;p ).

Well, Through all my life, I've only met 5~ people, who watch anime. Peope have a "thing" against animes, around here. They consider it "too simple", carelessly drawn. and usually, then find it BORING, because of long plots.
Why people watch it is, because they want to be deviant members of the society ( or they seem so ).

DISADVANTAGES:
for me ... it seems such a waste of time. because of the way they're being presented... Like I said, the talks are so LONG! for example : Naruto. I remember a 3 episode long fight, 2/3 which was all talking... which you could fit in a 5 minute speech.

*edit*
well, VashTexan, although it seems like a fun topic to discuss, all the ideas which will be presented are going to be based on bigger ones ; -fundamentals- like religion. Well, in that case, I don't think words will be anything other than quoting from those fundamentals, or basing self opinions on them.

and as for AI, I'll wait until the topic gets legalized.
Yet;
In the university, I'm a research-assistant , working on a sub-topic of AI.
And also, I lead another AI project("AI Project-1- : 4th Dimension") which will hopefully bring a new approach to the way AI thinks/works. So, I might be able to answer few questions of yours, thecnically :) .

Not an anime fan!? Hmmm...makes me wonder just how you ended up in Nihonmaru forums. Too simple, carelessly drawn... well the style reflects some of the aspects of traditional Japanese art, as well as some modern refinements based on contemporary aspects of beauty. The simplicity is used to enhance the more attractive elements and diminish the less attractive (signs of aging, sickness, defects, etc.), much like using extensive amounts of professional makeup. Long plots try to create a sense of familiarity with the situation and characters, gradually building up suspense (or quickly near the climax sometimes) leading to the climax.

Anime varies as well, with extremely detailed anime (that of course take much more time and work to produce), as well as varied plots and lengths of plots. Anime can't really be generalized. It all depends on individual tastes in stories, theater (including classical Greek), ideas, themes, music, images, fantasy; personality; view of reality, politics, governments, etc.; as well as innumerable other aspects. I personally really enjoy revolutionary themes, science fiction, fantasy, romance, etc. because they reflect me and my ideas, whether in anime, movies, books, etc. Anime shows and does what I can only dream of; what I lack the power to do right now; what I crave for and seek endlessly. Often times, it relieves my frustration caused by my personal, negative view of the majority of reality, but I've found it can also build up frustration when the characters don't do what I would (in that they are much less extreme).

For me, there is no bigger waste of time than living, as pretty much anything could happen, like one of the tremendous meteors, which keep passing by too close to earth without out our knowing until after the event, will finally hit us. Thus, any work to change this world will be utterly wasted, and be just pointless. However, as I'm very bored in this world, I will try to make it to my liking (like anime) as much as possible, regardless of impending doom and those that will undoubtedly try to stop me (actually making it more fun!).

And I really wanna discuss A.I. cause I still have too many questions, about the field in general and for you personally/professionally...

Till then...Viva la revolution!

Re: {Philosophers' Corner}

Be patient young lad... ;)

We will have enough time to discuss AI... I can not imagine Nihonomaru going away soon just like this club.

But if more people want that subject then it is possible that it could have some sort of clearance I think/hope. Although it is pretty high level material if you are really into it. I am not really into it but I do have the basic understanding.

Re: {Philosophers' Corner}

Welcome both of You! I'll add You two to the list right away. :)

kiziroglu: If anyone who has 100 posts want to join he or she can just tell me here and he/she will be added to the membners list.

VashTexan: I thought about that, but I intentionally avoided every topic that could lead to a religion vs atheism debate. I think we should wait with that. It's like the 'Ultimate Debate' in my eyes. :) But if we strictly focus on the concept of death we can try.
About changing the world. It's a nice thing, I have my own dreams too, but still, this isn't the place where that would happen. ;)
Btw, our views on life are very close.
Carpe diem! :D

Anime:
Mostly I agree with VashTexan. One thing to add. I'm sort of the 'visual type'. I enjoy a good panorama, a beautiful painting and I find (most) animes visually pleasing.

I'll wait with the next topic a little bit more. Death, maybe. Or Ai. I also considered "hardcore" philosophy, but I want to hear everyone's opinion first. Something like Time, Metaphysics, Epistemology, Logic, Realism, Nominalism, Rationalism, Empiricism, Skepticism, Idealism, Pragmatism, Phenomenology, Exixtentialism, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer or even Freud. Etc.

Next semester started today. This means I'll be able to visit the site only once a day. :(
